Streetsville Village Times Article- February / March 2018

With over 300 unique restaurants, cafes, pubs, and shops and great events running year-round, there
is always something to do in downtown Streetsville or the “Village in the City” as it is often referred to
as. When you’re in and around downtown Streetsville, please note that paid parking is now in effect
in certain areas. Paid parking was implemented in downtown Streetsville in January 2018. Paid
parking will be implemented in two phases. The first phase includes Queen Street South between
Barry Avenue and Kerr Street and Municipal Parking Lot #9 located at Queen Street and Pearl Street
as follows:

• Queen Street South on-street paid parking is in effect from:

Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
• Off-street paid parking in Municipal Parking Lot #9 is in effect from:
Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

The cost for parking on-street and in Municipal Parking Lot #9 is $1.50 per hour for the first two hours
and $2 for the third hour. Parking is allowed in these locations for a maximum of three hours. Parking
in all other areas of Streetsville remains free of charge.

Paid Parking was implemented in downtown Streetsville as occupancy surveys completed in order to
confirm parking demand and occupancy rates revealed high on-street parking occupancy rates,
minimal vehicle turnover, and limited availability of convenient parking in the core of Streetsville. To
this end, paid parking helps manage parking demand, encourage parking space turnover, and
alleviate traffic congestion that is caused when drivers are required to circle to locate an available
parking space.

Paid parking encourages quicker turnover of parking spaces and long-term parking to occur in off-
street parking lots. Paid parking also creates revenue to offset high costs related to parking
infrastructure maintenance and new parking facility developments. All revenues generated will be
transferred to the Streetsville Cash in Lieu parking fund and will be used in Streetsville. Parking
charges have been used as a parking management tool for parking in the Downtown, Clarkson,
Cooksville and Port Credit for many years.

The City’s Municipal Parking team worked closely with the Streetsville Business Improvement Area
(BIA) on the implementation of a paid parking plan. Parking Staff will bring forward a corporate report
to General Committee in 2018 for phase two of paid parking in Streetsville. For more information
