Lesson Objectives:
● Students will demonstrate an understanding of the difference between different
instruments.
● Students will demonstrate an understanding of the differences in timbre related to
instruments.

LESSON ACTIVITIES

Introductory Activity: Anticipatory Set Welcome the students to the classroom. Ask how their
day is going until the bell rings

Body of the Lesson


● Instrumental Powerpoint with audio examples
o Students will show engagement with the instruments being introduced to them
o Plan for 100% engagement: Ask for new hands when only a few are speaking
o Modifications/Accommodations: allow students to stand quietly in the back of the
room and move if needed to get out energy.
o Formative Assessment: ask for thumbs up if you understand
o Instructional Strategy (type of learning or teacher role occurring): auditory and
visual
o Time allotted: 10 min

● Instrument Flashcard game


o Students will show engagement by participating and supporting their peers in the
flashcard game.
o Plan for 100% engagement: every student will need to participate 3 at a time
o Modifications/Accommodations: allow students to sit while representing their
team if need be.
o Formative Assessment: Check for speed and accuracy of cards chosen
o Instructional Strategy (type of learning or teacher role occurring): visual, auditory,
and kinesthetic
o Time allotted: 10 min

Concluding Activity transition into Mr. White’s lesson and tie up the lesson.

Extensions:
● If time allows, students will switch groups and do a second (more difficult) round of the
flashcard game.
