ABSTRACT
Currently the cybercrime & frauds has dramatically increased, which paved the path for the
organized & unorganized crime in the society. Many peoples rely on online processing, online
transaction. Maximum of their personal information is online, which is highly prone to the
cybercrimes & threats. Also restriction of this cybercrime is mainly depends on understanding &
analyzing the behaviour of the peoples in the society. This paper provides the understanding of
cybercrime & also its impact on the society with its threats. Also this manuscript provides how to
overcome the cybercrime.
Keywords: Cyber Crimes, online processing & transaction, society

INTRODUCTION
Cybercrime includes any criminal act dealing with computers and networks. Additionally,
cybercrime also involves the traditional crimes conducted through the Internet like telemarketing
and Internet fraud, identity theft, and credit card account thefts are considered to be major one. A
new study by Norton reveals the staggering prevalence of cybercrime: 65% of Internet users
globally, and 73% of U.S. Web surfers have fallen victim to cybercrimes. As the most victimized
nations, America ranks third, after China (83%) and Brazil and India (76%).
If use of any of the following activities is made, to carry out a crime – then it can be classified as
a Cyber crime: Spamming, Stalking, Extortion, Blackmail, Bullying, Phishing, Hacking,
Malware, Exploiting vulnerabilities, Social Engineering and Identity Theft.
Many questions arises like that “ whether cybercrime arises only through the internet or through
computer only?” however traditionally the crimes such as theft & frauds are done physical way
but now it has been converted into digital form & such crimes are referred as cybercrime.
Cybercrime, especially done through the Internet, has grown in importance as the computer has
become key source for trade & commerce, entertainment, and government. Because of the early
and widespread adoption of computers and the Internet in the United States, most of the earliest
victims and villains of cybercrime were Americans. By the 21st century, though, hardly a hamlet
remained anywhere in the world that had not been touched by cybercrime of one sort or another.
Most cybercrime is an attack on information about individuals, corporations, or governments.
Although the attacks do not take place on a physical body, they do take place on the personal or
corporate virtual body, which is the set of informational attributes that define people and
institutions on the Internet. In other words, in the digital age our virtual identities are essential
elements of everyday life: we are a bundle of numbers and identifiers in multiple computer
databases owned by governments and corporations. Cybercrime highlights the centrality of
networked computers in our lives, as well as the fragility of such seemingly solid facts as
individual identity.
The updated technology and high speed of internet have led more criminals to use cyberspace to
commit crimes. The threat of cybercrime is increasing as globalization continues to spread across
the world. While the impact of globalization has led to amazing, new discoveries throughout the
world, Internet connectivity has also made cybercrime easier. America and the rest of the world
have become more reliant on technology and use it in more aspects of their lives, technology-
users make themselves more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Globalization and the growing use of
computers in the world have given people a motive to learn more about computing and become
more knowledgeable as programmers. As these people learn more, there is a risk that they will
use their new intelligence to commit cybercrimes.
The internet also offers high speed connectivity between various countries, which allows
criminals to commit cybercrimes from anywhere in the world. Due to the demand for the internet
to be fast, networks are designed for maximum speed, rather than to be secure or track users.
This lack of security enables hacker.
The best example of cybercrime is BAL Bharati case in Delhi, which is committed by a juvenile.
Harassment by friends was the reason. Hackers practice their trade for various reasons. Pakistani
hackers target websites of the Indian government for political motives. Others hack websites of
companies to get information about their products or activities and then sell the information to
their rivals. Employees who have been sacked hack the systems of their employers for revenge.

IMPACT OF CYBERCRIME
Impact on Teenager
Nowadays it has created worst fear in minds of teenager’s, which is commonly called as Cyber
Bullying. Generally from the age below eighteen are more prone and feared from Cyber Bullying
as per observation. As per inspection the worst fear of cybercrime is seen in teenager’s girls.
It is becoming an alarming trend in our society. Cyber Bullying is a fear when some person
receives threats, negative comments or negative pictures or comments from other person. Where
various website like Facebook, Orkut, Twitter affected from Cyber Bullying. This may cause
depression, humiliation & threatens, which may cause fear by loosing their privacy information.

Impact on consumer behavior

Strategic leveraging of internet & information revolution has coupled, which caused a number of
dangerous of cybercrimes & cyber terrorist acts, especially in commercial business transaction.
Corporations should realize that these threats to their online businesses have strategic
implications to their business future and take proper measures to ensure that these threats
are eliminated or significantly reduced so that consumer confidence in the Internet as an
alternative means of shopping is maintained. With the fast growth in e-commerce has become
major threat for the consumer which affects the perception of the way we do online shopping.
These counter measures, coined as cyber security, have been developed to ensure the safety of
consumer privacy and information and allow for a carefree shopping.

Impact on Private Company

However small & medium company are facing cyber threats with fewer resources & accepting
the risk related to exposure of their private information & data. Cybercrime will try to
devastating by damage caused in many situations at the end of the business. The conclusion is
that industries fall victim to cybercrime, but to different degrees and with different economic
impact. The purpose of the electronic break and enter can be to steal the financial information of
the business or its customers, to deny service to the company website or to install a virus
that monitors a company's online activity in the future.

Impact on youth
Cyber communication is society’s newest way to interact with each other. Various Online social
networking websites, text messages and emails provide users with an effective, quick way to
communicate with people all over the world. Teens in particular spend hours online every
day, on computers or personal electronic devices. This cybercrime helps in leakage of their
information and private pictures leads to cyber bullying. Sexual solicitation is a growing
concern for youth who use forms of cyber communication.
It may occur in chat rooms or on social networking sites. Sexual solicitation occurs when an
adult or peer tries to engage in an online sexual relationship. A teen may be asked to disclose
personal information, view pornography or discuss something sexual online. About 70-80%
percent of teenagers who are sexually solicited online are girls. Teens should be cautious in
posting suggestive photos online and talking to strangers in chat rooms.

Impact on society
However, it should bear in mind that the social concern for high crime rate is not because of its
nature, but due to potential disturbance it causes to the society. In addition, some individuals
are victims of crime in a more specific sense.
The victims of cybercrime may lose anything that has value. Safety, peace, money, and
property are perhaps basic values, because they contribute to the satisfaction of many wishes.

The principal threats related to cyber crime activities could be grouped into the following
categories:
 Intrusion for monetary or other benefits
 Interception for espionage
 Manipulation of information or networks
 Data destruction
 Misuse of processing power
 Counterfeit items
 Evasion tools and techniques

HOW TO TACKLE WITH CYBERCRIME

Besides, if a cybercrime has made to suffer physical, mental, or financial loss than we can report
it to the concerned department that every government has nowadays. Each country takes
cybercrime seriously and has organizations that work actively to tackle the crime and to bring the
criminals to justice. These are the ways to prevent cybercrime
Practice safe surfing
When navigating the web, you need to take precautions to avoid phony websites that ask for your
personal information and pages that contain malware. Use a search engine to help you navigate
to the correct web address since it will correct misspellings. That way, you won’t wind up on a
fake page at a commonly misspelled address.
Caution Click
When you’re browsing your mails or chatting over instant messenger, be careful not to click on
any links in messages from people you don’t know. The link could will link to fake website that
asks for your private information, such as user names, bank details and passwords, or it could
download malware onto your computer. Even if the message is from someone you know, be
cautious. Some viruses replicate and spread through email, so look for information that indicates
that the message is legitimate.
Education
By educating yourself about the types of scams that exist on the Internet and how to avert them,
you are putting yourself one step ahead of the cybercriminals.
Stay Updated
Currently keep your operating system and browser updated. For instance, the WannaCry
ransomware exploited a flaw in Windows. Installing security patches helps protect you from
these flaws. Luckily, Windows and most browsers have settings to update automatically, so you
don’t have to do anything other than stay protected.
Use updated antivirus
Antivirus has to update often to protect you from current threats. With cybercrime on the
rise, new threats emerge daily. Allow your antivirus to automatically update both the core
program and virus definitions.
Look for HTTPS
Always look for HTTPS in the address bar of your browser when visiting any sites where you’ll
provide personal or financial details, such as shopping and banking sites. This identifies that the
website is using a security certificate the encrypts the data sent between you and the site.
Most browsers provide details on a site’s security certificate to help you determine if a site’s
legitimate or not. Taking those few extra seconds is just one way to take charge of cybercrime
prevention.
Limit Online Sharing
Cybercriminals can learn intimate details about your life simply by how much you share on
social media. They can figure out your passwords, especially those that use important dates or
family and pet names in them. They know what sites and apps you use. For best results, limit
your sharing. Set your social media profiles to private so only your friends see what you post.
Use strong passwords & identity
Users must develop strong passwords on their accounts or social networking that are difficult to
guess. Include both letters and numerals in their passwords. They must continuously update
passwords and login details. By changing login details, at least once or twice a month, there are
less chances of being a target of cybercrime.

CONCLUSIONS
With advances in technology, no one is safe from an attack by cybercrime & its threats.
Currently it is relatively easy to gain control of a machine on the Internet that has not been
adequately protected. Companies invest a significant portion of their money in protecting their
information, since the loss of irreplaceable data is a real threat to their business. Concrete
measures must be found in order to track electronics evidence and preserve them so that systems
are better protected from cyber intrusions. Besides, new cyber laws and policies must be
developed by to tackle the various families of cyber crime.
