Calculation program for geared and gearless elevator motors from ZIEHL-ABEGG

Our calculation program is now in use at ZIEHL-ABEGG and its customers for years. We are permanently
improving its use and keep the database updated. All kinds of traction elevators with geared or gearless
motors can be calculated. The program is designed for users who want to calculate different possibilities to
find the optimum drive for their application. The program can be used intuitively and leads the user through
several selection windows to a suitable elevator machine.

Of course ZIEHL-ABEGG cannot take any responsibility for your calculations.

Installing the program:

1 Please start the <Setup_ZAlift_{date}.exe>
2 Follow the instructions of the setup-program.
3 Select the folder, where the software shall be installed.

• The program is based on Visual Basic. Unfortunately sometimes there are incompatibilities to other
programs or special system configurations. If you discover a problem installing ZAlift please do not
hesitate to contact us. We will always try to find a solution for your problems.
• ZAlift is compatible to 32- or 64-bit Windows-Systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8)
• The software can be installed locally (default) or on a server.
• If multiple users shall use a single server installation, then the link to <lift.exe> has to be made manually
for all users.
• The folder, where the Software is installed needs full read and write access for all users to make the
software work proper.
Without sufficient access rights, the error “database has been manipulated” could appear during starting
the program.

Configuration:
To use the software, a password is necessary. If you do not have a password yet, please contact us,

The same password may be used by multiple users, but some settings may be needed to avoid duplicate
numbers!

After starting the program, some basic settings can be done at “options”
- HTML fint size
Defines the font size in the printout file
- Language:
Language for using the software. Can also be set at the login screen.
- ‘Project’ appears
If this is activated, the printout shows <Project> in front of the project name.
- Show print preview
If this is acitivated, a print preview is added to the print function.
- ZDBI (internal database)
If this is activated, then the database is not read from the <lift.zdb> file but a software internal
database is used. This option is activated automatically if e.g. the operating system blocks any data
access by <lift.exe>. It is possible, that the software internal database is not up-to-date.
This option should normally be deactivated!
- A3/UCM
The additional calculation according A3/UCM can be set as default.
 - Stopping distance at short-circuit motor braking
If this is activated, the UCM stopping distance is also calculated by taking the short circuit braking
torque of synchronous motors into account.
- Automatic file names with date and time
In addition to the calculation number, the calculation file name will include the date and time.
- Path index
Each calculation gets an individual calculation number. This number counts up by one every time a
calculation is made. The index file <lift.ind> contains the last calculation number.
Default for the path index is the path where the software is installed.
If multiple users are using the same password, they must set the path index to the same
server path so that the software is using a central number counter! Otherwise different
calculations with same numbers will be generated!
- Path for calculation
The default path where the calculations are stored is the installation path. By adjusting the path,
multiple local installations can save the calculations on a server path.
Especially if there are multiple users it is recommended to store all calculations on a main server.

Program version
The version of your software and database can be seen by hitting the “ZAlift” button. Underneath the version
information, the path of the used database is shown. If this shows ZDBI, the software internal database is
used Please check your access rights at the ZAlift software folder and try to deactivate the “ZDBI” button at
“Options”.

Help buttons
At the moment, only the help button at the UCM calculation gives you additional information.

Note about HTML output files:

The output files are saved in HTML format. These files should only be opened with ZAlift or a web browser.
Please do not open the output files with WORD or similar software as these programs modify the files
completely and make them unusable for ZAlift.

The Software can be used in different languages. It is also possible to change the printout language even at
a recalled calculation.
