Cancer is Bad
Let’s get rid of it

2
228,000
People are diagnosed with lung cancer each year.

3
Preventing Expression of the CDH22 Gene to
Inhibit Lung Cancer Proliferation Using CRISPR
via Inhaled Magnetic Nano Pellets Which Bind to
Magnetic Chrysotile Asbestos Fibers
4
Explanation of
Cadherin-22

CDH22, also known as Cadherin 22, is known to

cause proliferation of cancer cells. Its expression
has been linked to tumor growth in colorectal,
lung, and other cancers.

5
Target Demographic

This medication would be used on lung cancer

patients who have been exposed to high amounts
of asbestos or other carcinogens. These would
typically consist of older people, as asbestos
related cancers develop over the course of 15-35
years after exposure.

6
Delivery and Targeting

The delivery method will consist of nano pellets

containing a concentrate solution of CRISPR Cas9
vectors and their respective utilities.
It will also contain a low quantity of magnetic iron
to help guide the pellet to regions high in
Chrysotile Asbestos, which are most likely to be
afflicted with tumors.

7
Genetic therapy

The CRISPR plasmids will perform a deletion in

chromosome 000020.11 between base pairs
401-817. This will fully delete the gene that codes
for CDH22.

8
Therapy Administration
Procedure

The particles will be inhaled by the patient via a

specialized aerosol solution. The particles will then
travel into the lungs and become attracted to
asbestos fibers and the surrounding tissues. The
pellets will then disintegrate and release the
CRISPR plasmids into the cancerous tissue.

Clinical Trial of
Ciatin

Strategies for Clinical Testing

13
Trial Objectives

Goal: Our goal is to determine whether this new technology is capable of

inhibiting cancerous cell growth in humans. We also hope to isolate possible
side-effects regarding the treatment, in order to potentially account for errors should it
be necessary.

Hypothesis: We believe the the inhibition of CDH22 expression has the

potential to restrict cancerous cell growth. Based on data recorded from research
conducted on mice, the treatment is shown to work as intended. While we recognize
that mouse reactions to therapies aren’t always indicative of human reactions, we are
confident in this therapy’s ability to accomplish its task.

14
Target Population for
Study

The main demographic in terms of participants in

this clinical trial include patients already diagnosed
with lung cancer due to asbestos and other
metallic-based carcinogens. Subjects are required
to be no older than 70, and no younger than 30.

15
Potential Risks and
Benefits

BENEFITS RISKS
◉ Drug targets only cancerous cells ◉ Possible failure of nano pellet to dissolve properly
◉ Has been shown in mice to reduce tumor ◉ Possible adverse effects due to iron content in nano
growth pellets
◉ When used in tangent with traditional ◉ Allergic reactions
chemotherapy, Ciatin therapy has been shown ◉ Shown in mice to produce flu-like symptoms,
to be even more beneficial sometimes very severe
◉ Non-invasive delivery method using inhalation ◉ Contamination of canisters or breathers may occur
◉ Patients may choke or gag upon the spray treatment
or the water vapor placebo

16
Trial Design
Trial Type: The Ciatin Therapy trial will be a randomized, double blind type clinical trial. This means
that neither the doctors administering the treatment, nor the subjects being analyzed, will be aware of
which supplementary treatment subjects are exposed to.
Control Population: This half of the subjects will receive a non-toxic, water based aerosol spray
inhalant which serves as a placebo. The subjects will receive this placebo treatment alongside their normal
chemotherapy treatment plans.

Trial Population: This half will be administered the nanoparticle inhalant solution which contains
Ciatin. They are given this alongside their normal chemotherapy treatment plans. This is the group that
researchers will observe for benefits or detriments as compared to their Control counterparts.
Independent Variable: The independent variable in this study is the patient’s treatment plan, or
whether or not they are on the placebo medication
Dependent Variable: The dependent variables of the study include the potential effects of the
Ciatin therapy on the Trial Population, whether positive or negative.
17
Safety Procedures

Precautions for Patients: Patient’s medical equipment is to be sterilized and

kept pristine. The inhaler from which the drug is administered will be disposed of and replaced after
every treatment. Patients will be monitored closely during the entirety of the testing process in order
to protect them in case of an adverse reaction. Patients will document every possible side effect in
order to notify researchers with potential issues with the Ciatin therapy.

Precautions for Medical Professionals: Medical professionals

administering treatment will be required to use proper safety and sterilization techniques. These
include use of disposable gloves and face masks to prevent exposure to the aerosol spray.
