VIRTUALIZATION

VIRTUALIZATION
Refers to the creation of a virtual machine that acts like a real computer with an
operating system. Software executed on these virtual machines is separated
from the underlying hardware resources. For example, a computer that is
running Microsoft Windows 98 may host a virtual machine that looks like a
computer with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system; Ubuntu-based
software can be run on the virtual machine.

In hardware virtualization, the host machine is the actual machine on which the
virtualization takes place, and the guest machine is the virtual machine. The
words host and guest are used to distinguish the software that runs on the physical
machine from the software that runs on the virtual machine. The software
or firmware that creates a virtual machine on the host hardware is called
a hypervisor or Virtual Machine Manager.
Virtualization overview

What is Virtualization?
Today’s computer hardware was designed to
run a single operating system and a single
application, leaving most machines vastly
underutilized.
Virtualization lets you run multiple virtual
machines on a single physical machine, with
each virtual machine sharing the resources of
that one physical computer across multiple
environments.
A virtual machine behaves exactly like a
physical computer and contains it own virtual
CPU, RAM, hard disk and network interface
card (NIC). Virtual Machines Benefits
Different virtual machines can run different Simplified maintenance
operating systems and multiple applications
on the same physical computer, including Reduced hardware costs
Windows, Linux, Solaris and many more. Reduced management costs
Simplified support for older operating systems and
applications

What is .iso?
What is .iso?

An ISO file, often called an ISO image, is a single file, perfect representation of
an entire CD, DVD, or BD. The entire contents of a disc can be precisely
duplicated in a single ISO file.

You can think of an ISO file like a box that holds all the parts to something that
needs built - like a child's toy you might buy that requires assembly. The box that
the toy pieces come in does you no good as an actual toy but the contents inside
of it, once taken out and put together, become what you're actually wanting to
use.

ISO files are simply a way of packaging a lot of files and folders together into a
single file with the file extension ISO. They are generally used to create an image
of a CD or DVD. Having just one file containing everything is convenient for
downloading or for storing on a computer. It is becoming common to distribute
programs this way instead of providing physical media. As fewer devices are
coming with optical drives, you are likely to encounter ISO files more and more.
KEY TIPS

➢ Burning ISO files to a CD/DVD

➢ Mounting an ISO file to emulate a disc using Daemon tools,

MagiDisk, etc.

➢ Reading the contents of an ISO file without unpacking it

➢ Unpacking an ISO file directly to the hard drive or USB drive

ISO and RAR files

Difference between iso and rar files

.rar is a compressed file and .iso is a image file not compressed but bootable,
usually if the file comes as .rar is ready to use from windows, but if it is .iso you
need to burn it into a cd and then boot from it.
