Lesson
Children will match puzzle pieces with colored objects to the puzzle piece of that color.
Summary:

Estimated This lesson will be taught in 10-15 min sessions over two weeks, during each session the children
Duration:
will be introduced to the iPad which will have the game on it for them to match puzzle pieces. The
session will last as long as the group of 4 children are interested in playing it with a max of 30 min
each day.
Preparation of What preparation is needed? Having the game set up and ready to play on the ipads
materials and
environment
What materials will be used? iPads

How will the learning environment be set up? a teacher will sit at a table with 4 children and
the ipads and give them instructions as they play the game.

Instructional Procedures:
Day 1: The teacher will bring out the iPads, using one of them the teacher will show the children the game. The teacher
will tell them that they are going to sit at the table and play the game. They will be given an iPad and shown how to
touch it to make it work and move the pieces that match together on the screen. If a child is having trouble the teacher
will give assistance if the child is only interested in the bright colors and not playing the game they can choose to walk
away. The children will have a mac of 30 min to play on the iPad.
Day 2: The next day the same technique will be practiced, if the teacher finds that this is to difficult for the group the
game will be switched to a one on one activity to help the children understand the concept of the game and the
technology as it may be a very new concept to some of the children. This will be the continuing practice each day for the
next two weeks. If the children begin to understand the concept and do well, we will go back to a group setting. If it
goes well and they understand and get the game will increase the difficulty level of the game.

Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the
needs of gifted or accelerated students: If there are children who do really well and have the concept of using the ipad
down we will try a more challenging match game. If a child is having trouble in the group we will work with them one on
one and try an easier match game that does not include puzzle shapes but just matching items of the same color.

Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material: using
non technology items to match colors would be an activity to try if there are children having trouble with the
technology.

Vocabulary: iPad, touch screen, colors, matching, puzzle pieces, game, new, move

For teachers for this lesson the teacher will need to create a color matching game to put on the
iPads for the children to play.

For students the children will learn to use the iPads with their teachers help.
