Teams are created at the bottom.

Introduction (5 min.):

Students need to get changed in gym change rooms and allowed into the gymnasium, have students wait on
benches for everyone to finish changing. Inspect that students have removed watches/large rings and are
dressed appropriately. Teacher should monitor students to ensure safe behaviour in change rooms at the
beginning and end of class.

Start warm up-Students will “run” laps for 3 minutes. Side shuffles the long sides of the gym and lunges on
short sides of the gym. Number of laps does not matter, only that they are giving a good effort.

Body (30 min.):

Steps and Procedures Identify Teaching Strategies:

Direct instruction to outline rules
After warm up explain rules, divide into teams (written at bottom Game based learning
of lesson plan).

Each team has catapults and runners

Catapults lay on the floor in front of the middle line and launch Assessments
balls at the other team’s targets. They must do a sit up and
throw the ball in one fluid motion
Runners hand balls to the catapults - they cannot guard the Formative:
targets. Check in for instruction clarity
Runners and catapults will switch every 2 minutes when I blow
the whistle once. Stop game play with 2 whistles.

4 catapults/ 4 or 5 runners at a time on each side. One team will

be uneven.
There are enough balls that runners must always be looking for
a ball to bring to their catapult.
Game is won when all targets have been knocked over.

Reset targets, redistribute balls and teams begin again with a

whistle blow.
Differentiation

Add a rule: If a catapult hits an opposing runner that runner

has to run across the short side of the gym and back then
return to game play.

Add a rule: If play is going quickly - have 2 runners on each

side switch to Guards who can then guard the targets they
can only stay in their “zone” which is a few feet in front of
the pins. Other 2 runners must supply catapults with balls.

Consolidating and Closure (7 mins):

At 10:28 blow whistle to stop play, ball back in mesh bag, targets back in equipment room.

Check in with students- dismiss for changing.

Lay out popsicle sticks with their names on them, have students rate their experience from frustrated, it
was okay, liked it, loved it.

Have students get changed and wait quietly in hallway, monitor for behavior/volume. Count students as they
enter and return to the classroom.
