WORD

It is normal for people to have ambitions in life. But the question will be, are these
ambitions in accord with the will of the Lord?
What should be our main purpose in life while on earth? Rick Warren said and I quote,
“Nothing matters more than knowing God’s purposes for your life, and nothing can
compensate for not knowing them – not success, wealth, fame, or pleasure. Without a
purpose, life is motion without meaning, activity without direction, and events without
reasons. Without a purpose, life is trivial, petty, and pointless.”

A. What is the “ministry of reconciliation”

Webster’s Dictionary defines the term “Reconcile” this way: 1) to restore friendship or
harmony. 2) To settle or resolve.

e.g. A and B got married in 2017. In 2018, B cheated on A. They separated. In

2019. They got together and talked out their differences, B asked for forgiveness.
A decided to forgive B’s offense. They reconciled.

In this example, there was an offense, and a separation between A & B, but they were
reconciled after one party decided to ask for forgiveness and the other party readily
forgave.

Applying the example above, we are like B who asked forgiveness and has accepted the
forgiveness from A (God). We are reconciled with God. One important thing that
happened in our lives is that we have been reconciled with God. Sin is the cause of being
separated with God. (Isaiah 59:1).

The awareness of being separated with God requires not only repentance but facing its
consequence. (Rom. 6:23) Christ's sinless sacrifice resulted in reconciliation with God.
His sacrifice enabled God to justify us, that is, to consider us sinless in a legal sense. We
were still sinful, but because we accepted Christ's sacrifice, His blood covered us. Thus,
under His righteousness, we are allowed now to have access to God. Having access, we
can be forgiven by God and made clean. Because of that, we have the opportunity now
to have eternal life, and we are saved, then, by His life being lived in us.

B. How are we going to flex the Gospel as Paul did? (vv. 9-11)
As a witness, what should be our motives? This motivation to share the gospel
should be found in the accountability we have to our Lord. We know that at the
judgment seat of Christ, we will give account for our lives and in particular our
obedience to the Great Commission. Are we prepared with an answer for others
regarding our hope of eternal life? If not, then we should be reminded of the
following:

1) Motivated by the __________ of the Lord (vv.9-11)

There are three things required of us:

a. He says our ambition should be to _______ God (v. 9).
b. Our attitude should be that of being ________to meet God (v. 10).
c. Our action should be to _________others for God (v. 11).

2) Motivated by the ___________ of Christ (vv. 12-17)

What are the Indicators of being motivated by the Love of Christ?

a. Reliable in our _______ (v. 13)

b. we must be constantly ___________ in our attitude (v. 14-17)
c. our lives have been ___________ by the life of Christ (vv. 15-17)
d. We _________ selfishness (v. 15)
e. because we have learned to operate in the ________ (v. 16).
f. we are ____________changed, from the inside out (v. 17)

3) Motivated by the ___________ of God (vv. 18-21)

We are called to respond to his call as ________________ v. 19-20

What is an ambassador? Oxford Dictionary tells us that an ambassador is the person who
acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. Every child of God has been
given the ministry of reconciliation (v. 18) but not all Christians understand its meaning.
To testify about God is a privilege. Our life is now a testament because as the Bible says,
the old is gone, the new has come. And because we have been reconciled with God, we
are called to proclaim His message to others with Jesus Christ as example. As
Ambassadors,

1. Our sin was ___________ to Christ and not to us (vv. 19-20)

2. We who were His enemies, have been ___________ to God through Christ
3. We __________ of our sin, placed our trust in Christ alone
4. We ______________ our life to His control
5. We can ____________ that good news everywhere

Our world is in need of Ambassadors for Christ. Our world is in rebellion against God’s
kingdom. He needs ambassadors who will declare peace and not war. We represent
Jesus Christ and we plead with them, “we implore you on Christ’s behalf be reconciled to
God.”

In this ministry of reconciliation God is persistent, patient, and passionate. Thus, we must
be motivated by Christ’s love, fear of the Lord and challenged by His call.

REFLECT

1. Do you see yourself as one to whom the privilege of the ministry of reconciliation has
been granted? If not, why not?

___________________________________________________________________

2. Who are you pleading with to come to faith in Christ? Who are you praying for to
come to Christ?

1) What is your greatest ambition in life?

2) What will every person face after death?

3) Are you truly prepared to meet God?

4) How would you answer the question, “what did you do to the life I gave you?” if
God would ask you that question in the judgment day?

5) Who are you praying for to come to Christ?

Closing Song

With All I Am
Into Your hand I commit again
With All I am For You Lord
You hold my world in the palm of Your hand
And I am Yours forever
Jesus, I believe in You
Jesus I belong to You
You're the reason that I live
The reason that I sing
with all I am
I'll walk with You wherever You go

Closing Prayer

Thank God for His purpose and vision for your life, your family, and the people He
has blessed you with, and for His hand upon you. Pray that God would ignite a deep
passion for Him in your life and that many people would come to know Christ through you.
