euro roundtable programme kicks off

It seems barely 5 minutes ago that we were gathering in the video suite in Las Vegas with senior execs from around the
IoT industry to film the 2015 Incisor.TV USA Roundtable. Little did we know at the time that that would become our
most successful event to date, thanks to the support of our research partner IHS, our media partner IDG Connect, and
the seven powerful organisations that participated - the EnOcean Alliance, Frontline, Itron, Laird, NextGen Technology,
the Thread Group/Nest, and UL.
With the support and online reach of all of those companies we have pushed the online viewings number for the main
Roundtable to over 20,000 – our most-watched movie ever, and in just 3 months. Phenomenal!
So, yes, we are keeping our attention on the Roundtable programme, announcing the dates and location of our mid-
year, European event in this issue. Details can be found on p7 - 8.
I am delighted to say that not only is IHS continuing in its role as a co-host for the Roundtable programme, but our
media partner IDG Connect has also stepped-up its level of involvement. It will promote the event to its global client
base, and Editorial Director Martin Veitch will join the top table and will moderate the event with myself and IHS senior
analyst Alex Green. Once the Roundtable has been filmed and the resulting movies have been published, IDG Connect
and IHS will again promote the online video content to their respective client bases. I don’t think I need to explain how
far and wide this means that the reach of the Roundtable programme has been extended.
Our theme is ‘Innovation and connectivity in the Internet of Things’. This gives us a very broad palette, and extends the
relevance of the Roundtable programme to all companies addressing the IoT. I am delighted to be able to confirm, for
example, that Micron Technology, one of the world’s largest and most influential suppliers of system memory
requirements will join us at the European event. This expanded perspective is great news for all of our, IDG Connect’s
and IHS’ followers.
We would love to include your company at this event. Just talk to me.

There’s a long list of possible ways to enable the Internet

At this Incisor Roundtable we’ll ask experts for their ideas
on which technologies will prevail. We’ll discuss power
profiles, sustainability, reliability, performance, availability,
security, cost, integration, standards and more.
We’ll also predict how all this is likely to play out. Will
there be kludges, politics and power games, de facto
standards and failures? Will there be multiple winners as

LoRa specification

LPWAN for IoT

During Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2015, the

LoRa (Long Range) Alliance approved the first technical
specification for LoRaWAN, a leading contender for the LPWAN
market. LoRaWAN details how low-powered modules can
utilize sub-GHz frequencies to communicate through multiple
gateways to a network server. This system of end nodes
communicating through a gateway infrastructure to a
centralized network authority is intentionally analogous to
current cellular networks. The LoRa Alliance, led by industry
leaders such as Semtech, IBM, Cisco, Actility, Microchip, and
Laird, is designing a new type of network for M2M
