This short project was to produce bar-coded labels for products at goods in. This involved adding
extra fields to Material Master, including creating maintenance screens, check tables and a data
take-on program, and sending this and goods receipt information to an external file for printing 2d
pdf bar code labels. Also extracted data at delivery creation for storing in an external system to be
used for tracking products and made minor changes to sales order processing user exits. WM

This contract involved work on SD/MM/FI/PP/PA/CS/PM, writing reports and trouble shooting a
system that had gone live a few months previously. There was also preparation for an upgrade to
3.1I .

After a long career in Cobol programming, I attended several SAP courses in the summer of 1995
and then commenced work on implementing HR. This lasted approximately 12 months mainly
involving writing reports, interfaces and data conversion programs.
We then implemented FI/CO followed by a phased implementation of SD/MM/WM from the end
of 1997 to autumn 1998 involving customer and material data conversion and numerous reports.
Many personalised documents were produced using SAPscript, showing Merck's various logos,
such as export documentation, invoices and despatch notes.
New processing was added to the WM module to monitor the path of goods through the warehouse
involving some dialogue programming. Remote function modules were written to communicate, via
Idocs, with bar code reading equipment used in tracking goods.
During initial live running it was necessary to fine-tune reports by creating alternate indexes and
altering table buffering settings. I also acted as technical consultant to business analysts.
