Content objectives: Students will be able to extract and analyze the significance of
“Love in Infant Monkeys” by Lydia Millet.
Literacy objectives: Students will convey their findings and reflections on the text
through collaborative discussion.
Students will execute their ideas and reflections in written format.

• “Save the Last Word for Me” (Buehl 1995) after-reading strategy involves the use of
an index card to write down and reflect on statements extracted from a text that the
student finds interesting, as well as their reflection on said statement.

While groups are reading aloud, instructor will walk around and make sure there is a
collaborative effort amongst them.
“Save the Last Word for Me” index cards will be collected at the end of the lesson to explore the
students’ findings.

Differentiation:
English learners: In order to accommodate english learners, the text would be provided
with a translation to promote higher level of comprehension.
Striving readers: Instead of reading aloud in a groups, the text would be read aloud to
the students as a class to make it easier to follow along and interpret.
Advanced students: The lesson would be modified by assigning the entire book “Love
in Infant Monkeys” and requiring a deeper analysis instead of just focusing on one of the
short stories.
