Title: Development and Introduction of New

Technologies to reduce post harvest losses

Topic: Reducing post-harvest losses for increased

food security

Funding scheme: Collaborative projects (SICA)

Project description

Objectives:
Identify, develop and promote new post-harvest technologies to
increase domestic and industrial utilization of certain cereal and
legumes field crops (e.g., peanut and corn)
Preharvest and postharvest and storage management with
sustainable control ecological strategies for storage pests and
diseases (e.g., mycotoxins).
To conduct on-farm participatory research trials for assessment of
postharvest losses distribution and incidence and involve farmers,
producers and industry in selection and adoption of appropriate
strategies to reduce post harvest loss.
To exchange information and experiences on post harvest
technologies with EU partners, and dissemination of this information
to other potential users (public or private) in targeted partner
institution countries.
Project description

Expected results:
to identify, develop and share appropriate technologies to reduce
post-harvest losses
Demonstration activities under real-life by on-farm participatory
research trials
developing enhanced tools and methods for the assessment and
management of impacts on, and resistance of, food and feed
chains.
Impact:
To create a beneficial economic impact to the sector concerned.
increasing the effectiveness of the food chain by reducing post-
harvest losses.
Best practices including pre and post harvest, transport and
storage procedures.
