Ayana Rivera Application Essay #3 11/19/19

When I graduate from Nichols College, I will be continuing my education for one more year to

get my master's degree. I will be graduating with my sports management degree and continue to

get my master’s degree with it as well. My roommate Ariannah and I, after we graduate with our

bachelor's degree, we want to get our own apartment together in Worcester. She would continue

her master’s degree at Worcester State University in Psychology, and I will be at Nichols

College continuing Sports management. I will also have my sister living with us as well since

she would still be going to Anna Maria College. She would be graduating in 2023 while I will

have my second degree from grad school. After I am officially done from grad school, my dream

job is to work for ESPN as a sports analyst and someday maybe be an owner of a sports team.

As a sports analyst I would want to talk about sports such as baseball, basketball, and football

because they’re sports, I enjoy watching and reporting about as well. In the sports industry, there

aren’t a lot of women who work in the sports industry. As a woman myself I feel that I can make

a change and difference to the sports industry. Not only am I a woman but I am a Latina woman

who wants to show others that I can do anything and that anything is possible if you work hard

for it. My goal is to be a successful independent woman sports analyst being praised for my hard

work and being appreciated for how much knowledge I know about the sports. As for what state

I would want to work would be best in either Connecticut or Massachusetts. I wouldn’t want to

be too far away from where I live and moving to somewhere where I would feel comfortable. I

want to be leading as a Latina woman being part of the sports industry.

Some things that I will be doing next semester that are beneficial for my future is doing

internships. The two internships I will be doing next semester is working at the Super Bowl in

Miami and being an intern at Holy Cross College for sports event management and marketing. I
can’t wait to have these experiences and learn a lot from both of them. I have an open mind and I

have lots of options in the sports industry on what to do in the future. It’s a dream to be part of

these internships and these will help me be a leader someday within the sports industry.

The five core of leadership that we learned throughout the whole semester is model the way,

share vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. As for the first

leadership core I model the way by representing myself as an Emerging Leader, being part of the

women’s soccer team, and of course being a student here at Nichols College. In my school

community I always help others in and out of the classroom. Not only am I seen is just a student

but being a leader for others that look up to me. As for a shared vision the purpose is what you

and other members want to create or accomplish as part of an organization. As for the women's

soccer team we had goals to get a better record than last season and make it into conference. We

accomplished as a team getting the best record which was 10-7 since 2010. As for our

conference games unfortunately, we didn’t make it into conference, but we were glad to have

beaten Curry. As for enable others to act, as a leader I would give others advice for their future

or personal issues that they need help with. Even though I am part of the women’s soccer team I

am always there for them no matter what and my other friends who need a helping hand. As for

challenge of the process, I would have to push myself to work hard with my schoolwork and

within my sport as well. I would encourage the heart by supporting the other athletic teams

cheering them on and being supportive of students to keep up the good work.
