ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

“Gratitude is a miracle of its own recognition. It brings out a sense of

appreciation and sincerity of a being.”

The researchers would like to extend their deepest gratitude and recogition
to the following people who have helped the researchers meaningfully to achieve
our goals and result :

To our God whom is the Creator of all things. These would not be made
possible without His guidance and protection which inspires us to reach what we
need to accomplish. No words can express the gratitude we feel.

To Mr. Vicente Gerigdig Jr, Our English Teacher whom is our biggest
supporter and adviser in making all these possible. Thank you for sharing your
expert suggestions and all your hard efforts with words of encouragement in
accomplishing this research project.

To Sr. Hayde Marie L. Coronel, The Holy Family of Nazareth School Principal,
for her unfathomable support in allowing the researchers to conduct the research
in the schools premises and grounds.

To all students of Holy Family of Nazareth School for actively participating in

conducting our research.

Finally, We would like to acknowledge the support our classmates and the
love and motivation of our respective families with gratitude and love. They all kept
us going, to persevere with it and to finally accomplish it.

Words cannot express our deepest gratitude and respect. Thank you for
making all of these possible. To God be the Glory.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to help the students be on a right path in finding
their purpose in life or to those students who may seem or feel completely lost and
unsure of what to do. Finding purpose can be a life-long endeavor but nothing is
impossible with God and by knowing and trying to reach and teach those students
who are in a wrong path. We believe that with this intention we can accomplish
something that is at the same time meaningful to others especially us co-students.

In order to avoid students from using them, we recommend parents, teachers

and other adults in the community to face the issue head-on and work together to
keep students smoke-free. Moreover, this study aims to seek for solutions that
would positively affect the problem and have a good impact to people especially
students.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Rationale of the Study

Among young people, the short-term health consequences of smoking include

respiratory and non respiratory effects, addiction to nicotine, and the associated risk of
other drug use. Long-term health consequences of youth smoking are reinforced by the
fact that most young people who smoke regularly continue to smoke throughout
adulthood.Cigarette smokers have a lower level of lung function than those persons who
have never smoked.Smoking reduces the rate of lung growth.

In adults, cigarette smoking causes heart disease and stroke. Studies have shown
that early signs of these diseases can be found in adolescents who smoke.

Smoking hurts young people’s physical fitness in terms of both performance and
endurance—even among young people trained in competitive running. On average,
someone who smokes a pack or more of cigarettes each day lives 7 years less than
someone who never smoked.

The resting heart rates of young adult smokers are two to three beats per minute
faster than nonsmokers.

Smoking at an early age increases the risk of lung cancer. For most smoking-related
cancers, the risk rises as the individual continues to smoke.

Teenage smokers suffer from shortness of breath almost three times as often as
teens who don’t smoke, and produce phlegm more than twice as often as teens who don’t
smoke.

Teenage smokers are more likely to have seen a doctor or other health professionals
for an emotional or psychological complaint.

Teens who smoke are three times more likely than nonsmokers to use alcohol, eight
times more likely to use marijuana, and 22 times more likely to use cocaine. Smoking is
associated with a host of other risky behaviors, such as fighting and engaging in
unprotected sex.
