226N Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating

Product Description Cure Guide
3M™ Scotchkote™ 226N Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating is a Application Temperature Minimum Time
primerless, one part, heat curable thermosetting powdered at 450°F (232°C) to Quench
epoxy coating designed to protect pipeline systems up to 64
Scotchkote 226N Fast 30 seconds
inches (1625 mm) in diameter from exterior and interior
corrosion. 3M, the industry leader in coatings, has developed Scotchkote 226N Slow 8 G 90 seconds
a new fusion bond technology and application which Scotchkote 226N Slow 11 G 120 seconds
improves wet adhesion and cathodic disbondment resistance.

Features
Temperature Operating Range
• One coat system, no primer needed, no intercoat bonding
problems Scotchkote 226N Coating performs on pipelines operating
• Superior cathodic disbondment resistance without between -75°F and 230°F (-60°–110°C). Laboratory tests
pretreatment indicate that thicker coatings may improve the service
• Meets CAN/CSA-Z 245.20-M92 and British Gas capability for temperatures between 170°F and 230°F
PS/CW6 without pretreatment (77°–110°C). However, it is difficult to accurately predict
• Uniform coating thickness field performance from laboratory data due to the wide
• Easy visual inspection of surfaces variation in actual field conditions. Coating thickness, soil
• Highly resistant to moisture penetration, bacteria, fungus, type, moisture content and temperature unique to the
soil acids, alkalis, salt, hydrocarbons and other chemicals pipeline location affect the coating performance and the
associated with pipeline systems upper temperature operating limit.
• Greater resistance to soil stress and backfill compaction Handling and Safety Precautions
• Bendability exceeds ANSI B31.4 or B31.8 codes
• Protects over a wide range of temperatures Read all Health Hazard, Precautionary, and First Aid
• Stores in all climates statement found in the Material Safety Data Sheet, and/or
• Pipe can be stacked without padding product label of chemicals prior to handling or use.
• May be used with 3M™ Scotchkote™ 6251

Cure Specifications Minimum Explosive 0.10 oz/ft2 (102 g/m3)
Cure by residual heat. Post-bake is normally not required; Concentration
however, extra-light wall pipe may require additional curing
time.
Cure time is based on the temperature of the steel from
application point of the powder to the forced-air or water
cool-down. After the coating has cured, cool pipe with air
or water spray. Pipe cooling rates are based on .500"
(12.7mm) wall thickness and are included in cure time
figures. Follow the cure guide instructions to achieve
maximum performance.
