Chapter-6

Summary and Conclusions

6.1 Summary

In conclusion, the Project is anticipated to deliver significant benefits for road safety,
improve efficiency during peak times and provide capacity to cater for predicted growth
in traffic volumes along the route. The design, construction and maintenance of major
national primary routes such as motorways or dual carriageways are generally the
responsibility of a designated government department or an agency of it, with funding, in
the main, coming from central government. The development of effective road transport
system is primary need of any developing country. Also upgrading of existing road
network is essential for developed countries to carry out its transportation functions
smoothly as with increasing traffic volume urban and non-urban roads reach to their
saturation level in passage of time.

The methodology is the general research strategy that outlines the way in which research
is to be undertaken and identifies the methods to be used in it. These methods, described
in the methodology, define the means or modes of data collection or sometimes, how a
specific result is to be calculated. The design of route alignment and pavement structure
decide cost of project which totally depend on time taken for same. So for this job the
best available Highway Geometric Design Software must be deployed.

6.2 Conclusions

 All the improvements are planned within the proposed right of way.
 The proposed alignment is designed to match with the existing alignment at major
cross drainage sections.
 Design speeds are formulated for ruling Design Speed of 100 kmph except Built-up
locations and restricted areas.
 Limiting gradient values are adopted for few sections where site restriction prevails.
 The obtained base traffic volume data has been projected to a period of 15 years
(2019-2034).
 High design precision and saving in time were achieved by using MXROAD.

6.3 Future Scope

The many opportunities that arise for mitigating or reducing adverse environmental
impacts in modifications and repairs to existing roads should not be overlooked.
Environmental considerations should be included when plans are made to repair or
modify existing roads, as well as when plans are made to build new roads.
 Vehicle tracking can be done for proposed road using Bentley mx road software.
 Pipeline networking (for storm water and drainage system) can be done for proposed
road using Bentley mx road software.
 Bridge modeling can be done for proposed road using Bentley mx road software
 The cloud service will take leading role for design purpose, it will be more effective
for sharing data, presentation and collaboration.
 River Flood analysis can be done for proposed road using Bentley mx road software.

Ubaid Illahi 2016 The major concern for a Highway Engineer in any road network
system is an intersection. The heterogeneous traffic is more diverse in nature due to lane
changing and lack of lane discipline characteristics of drivers’ in India.

P. K. Sahoo 2015 One of the basic requirements in traffic engineering is to control the
speed of various categories of vehicles over roads for the safety of road users. Various
categories of roads are designed under different situations for designated design speeds
over which vehicles can travel with convenience and safety. The use of road humps in
city streets is an efficient way of controlling speed of automobiles

Blessing A, Robinson P., Sezgin M. T., Relja A., (2009) the author had investigated the
suitability of these modalities for road design, which makes heavy use of two dimensional
visual representations. They have implemented a multimodal road design interface that
combines sketching and speech.

analysis of result by using traffic data from an intersection. Vissim is one of the extremely
popular software for simulation

Dipti Thanki and A.K. Patel (2015) have studied the methodology on Urban Road
network using VISSIM. For the proposed study, a network with closely spaced signalized
intersections of Ahmedabad city was selected. In the selected network, 3 intersections
were four armed and signalized, whereas fourth intersection was six arms roundabout
without traffic signal.

Atashafrazeh M and Yadollahi M, (2012) the method used to estimate the highway
geometry detected more curves and tangents on the road surveyed in this study than a
similar length of road surveyed in the UK. This suggests that rural highways undulate
more in Ireland (the place where the researches study there) than in the UK.

Nitish Sharma 2011 the uninterrupted heterogeneous mix of vehicles plying on an

undivided two-lane road facility. On the basis of the collected data, traffic characteristics
pertaining to arrival, headway and speed distributions have been plotted considering
suitable mathematical distributions to fit field observed values.

Praveen Kumar 2015 In this research they have studied on a factor, which causes
further concern in Indian is very high and very low pavement temperature in some parts
of the country. Under this condition, flexible pavement tends to become soft in summer
and brittle in winter.

Dr. Rajashekar M. R. and Konthoujam Breeten Singh, 2015.They analyzed the traffic
flow in most cities of India is a mixed traffic characteristics and also the traffic
congestion is the common problem in most major cities in India. In Bangalore city, most
of the roads are congested and operate in level of service E or F..
