Job Description for TV Produce/Director

Key Tasks
A Producer/Director in a Network Television takes an Idea and delivers the program by
leading different teams and individuals as follows.
a. Production Team (Co-Producers, APs, LPs, ADs, Show runners Studio/Flour
Managers etc)
b. Technical Team (Camera Crew, Engineering and IT Crew, MCR & PCR operators,
VT Operators now Edit Suite Operators, Online Editor, Ticker
Operators etc.)
c. Creative Team (Editors, Music Producers, Animators, Art Director, Set Designer etc)
d. Research Team (Content Team, Script Team, Program Rundown Managers etc)
e. Talent: Actors, Singers, performers etc
And working to a Sr. Producer.

Job Aim
Taking Responsibility for specific programs or sections of programs and by contributing
High Quality output for the screen within the budget and time given.

Key Responsibilities and capabilities


1. Identify and select Concept/content/theme for a program category in a way which
strongly demonstrates the main Goal of the Network along with the Target
Audience Psyche.
2. To creatively define the mood and persona of the program to grab wider
viewership.
3. Visually drive the given program in terms of aesthetics and style, encouraging
innovative ideas and structure but remaining under Network’s Program Policy.
4. Lead and motivate every member of every team ensuring they have clear and
realistic objectives, consisting with Network Values. Give Clear briefing, monitor
performance and the tasks given. Supervision from the minor issues to the major
issues. Give constructive feedback considering pressure of deadlines given.
5. Work closely with the talent where appropriate, ensuring they are properly
briefed, and involving them in the production process, including scripting shows,
editing packages, guest lineups, themes, content etc..
6. Enough flexibility and stamina to sustain performance when under pressure.
Ability to cope with a huge volume of program material, all of which must be
thoroughly researched and investigated to ensure absolute accuracy and good
judgment.
7. Proven qualities of adaptability and flexibility in coping with rapidly changing
circumstances and ability to prioritize and exercise excellent situations as
circumstances change.
8. Ability to generate new creative and innovative ideas for programming.
9. Ability to plan and revise production budgets and schedules.
10. Achieve the given goal within the budget and time given.
11. Maintain the quality and high standard of programming through the directorial
vision as per the channel policy.
12. Excellent scripting and narrative skills.
13. Demonstrates original and imaginative ideas.
14. Is able to transform original or unusual ideas/impulses into practical reality.
15. Can look at existing situations and problems in novel ways and come up with
innovative solutions.
16. Communicates ideas and information clearly and concisely.
17. Listens to, understands and interprets information/instructions correctly.
18. Able to get ones message clearly understood by adopting a range of styles, tools
and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information.
19. Can identify key influencers in the organization.
20. Anticipates and provides sound arguments to support ideas/actions/initiative.
21. Has an ability to establish rapport quickly and effectively with new
people/contacts.
22. Takes care to maintain and develop existing relationships with the colleagues and
talent while working pleasantly with a wide range of people and understands the
demands and pressures of others.
23. Give staff a clear vision of direction and purpose by creating a sense of
responsibility amongst them along with the environment in which people support
each other.
24. Can maintain personal effectiveness by managing own emotions in the face of
pressure, set backs or when dealing with provocative situations.
25. Can demonstrate an approach to work that is characterized by commitment,
motivation and energy.
