Electric Current Through Conductors & Magnetism
1. Obtain an expression for equivalent resistance of two resistors connected in parallel combination.

2. What do you mean by cells connected in parallel combination? Obtain the expression for equivalent emf of two
cells connected in parallel combination.

3. Derive an expression for magnetic field due to a bar magnet at an arbitrary point.

4. Explain the Gauss’ law of magnetism.

5. Define the following : (i) magnetic axis (ii) magnetic equator (iii) geographic meridian
(iv) magnetic meridian (v) magnetic declination

6. Distinguish between Ohmic substances and Non-ohmic substances

7. A metallic wire of diameter 0.02 m contains 1028 free electrons per cubic meter. Find the drift velocity for free
electrons, having an electric current of 100 ampere flowing through the wire. (charge on electron = 1.6 x 10-19C)

8. A wire of circular cross-section and 30 ohm resistance is uniformly stretched until its new length is three times
its original length. Find its resistance.

9. A network of resistors is connected to a 14 V battery with internal resistance 1 ohm as shown in the circuit
diagram. Calculate (i) equivalent resistance (ii) current in each resistor.

10. Show that the magnitude of magnetic induction at a point on the axis of a short bar magnet is twice the
magnitude of magnetic induction at a point on the equator at the same time.

11. A magnetic pole of bar magnet has a pole strength 100 Am is 20 cm away from the centre of the bar magnet.
Bar magnet has a pole strength of 200 Am and has a length 5 cm. If the magnetic pole is on the axis of the bar
magnet, find the force on the bar magnet.

12. A magnet makes an angle of 45˚ with the horizontal in a plane making an angle of 30˚ with the magnetic
meridian. Find the true value of the dip angle at the place.

13. A short magnetic dipole has magnetic moment 0.5 Am2. Calculate its magnetic field at a distance of 20 cm from
the centre of magnetic dipole on (i) axis (ii) equatorial line. (μ0 = 4π x 10-7 SI units)

14. Evaluate the resistance for the following colour code resistors: (i) Yellow – violet – Black – Silver (ii) Green – Blue
– Red – Gold

15. A 6 m long wire has diameter 0.5 mm. Its resistance is 50 ohm. Find the resistivity and conductivity.
