1. What are the major distinction between storage and memory?

Answer:

Memory and storage – these computer terms are often used interchangeably. The
truth is, they are two very different things. Computer memory is called RAM, which stands
for random-access memory. RAM is used to store data that is currently being used. Data
stored in RAM can be accessed very quickly, as RAM is closely connected to a computer’s
central processing unit (CPU). On the other hand, computer storage refers to the place
where data is stored when it isn’t being used. Computer’s storage may consist of a hard
disk drive or a solid-state drive (SSD), the latter being much faster. Storage refers to the use
of any medium capable of storing data information long term. Usually, it is the computer’s
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that is used for the purpose of storage. While memory is data being
processed in real-time, storage does not necessarily have to be processed. It can just be
preserved for later use at any point in time.Computer memory needs to be quick. It is
constantly feeding the CPU with data to process. Since nobody likes to wait for a computer,
high-quality computers will have fast processors with lots of quick memory. Because
memory needs to be much faster than storage, it is rather more expensive than storage per
GB. But of course computers do not process all the data they have at once. They also need
to save some data for long term use. This is where storage comes in. Think of all the video
files, mp3s, photos, and documents on your PC. These files are not always being processed
by the CPU. They are mostly just hanging around waiting to be used at some point. Storage
does not need to be as quick as memory, but there does need to be a lot more of it. And
storage of course needs to be non-volatile, meaning it will not get erased when you power
off or restart your computer.

2. Why need to practice the computer ethics?

Answer:

We need to practice computer ethics because this will essentially protect individuals
online from predation: they prevent breach of privacy, identify theft, interference with
work and unlawful use of proprietary software, among other events. Computer ethics
govern the behavior of users online, and date back to 1992. These ethics govern social,
financial and legal uses of computers worldwide. The code of computer ethics, also called
the Ten Commandments, instructs users to not harass other users, use computers to spy or
use computers to gain access to private information. The ethics prevent the taking of
intellectual information without compensation and prevent users from using computing
resources without compensation or authorization. The ethics also mandate the use of
machines in a manner considerate and respectful of others. While it is absolutely true that
these technological advancements have greatly helped the way we lived, we should
consider the fact that they also brought about many social and ethical concerns to the
world. More often than not, most of us take technology for granted that we choose to ignore
the detrimental effects it will bring to society rising from these ethical issues. Computer
ethics protect personal & commercial information such as login & password info, credit
card and account information and government and commercial databases. It also controls
unwanted internet mail and ads. Also it control plagiarism, student identity fraud, and the
use of copyrighted material, etc. Furthermore, it makes ICT available and accessible to all
peoples, including the disabled and the deprived. Accessibility needs to be kept in mind
during curriculum design (in educational contexts), in order to maximize the capabilities of
the technology. In addition, it suppresses dishonest business practices and to protect and
encourage fair competition and promotes moral and social values in society.

3. Do you agree on the idea on allowing the students to use high tech
entertaining gadgets during class hours? Why?

Answer:
Well, my opinion may vary to other teachers. For me, gadgets can be allowed but
with caution. Gadgets have their place in education, but they’re no substitute for
knowledge. The immense computing power we possess will only make learning easier if we
acknowledge it will never make it effortless. For some, this generation of digital natives are
using technology in collaborative and social ways that will revolutionise
learning. Others worry about the damage these devices are doing to their concentration
spans and their ability to think deeply. There are countless reasons why technology is a key
aspect of learning in the schools. Whether we like it or not, technology is everywhere; and
in order for our students to survive in post-secondary education and the business world,
they must know technology. Learning through interactive gadgets in schools is as fun
loving as watching a favorite movie or a music video. Due to new and advanced technology
standard of teaching and learning has change a lot. Now a days teaching and learning in
schools with electronic gadgets is bit challenging for teachers and students. Making use of
electronic gadgets in the classrooms such as iPods, Smart Board, digital electronic
devices, Tablet PC, etc satisfies the growing standard of technology and prepares the life of
the students. These electronic gadgets make the students to think beyond their books and
explore the learning skills as much as they can. Introduction of gadgets in schools has
changed the entire scenario of teaching and it is beyond the teacher’s expectation. It also
helps the students to learn from the gadgets and grow their learning skills. Today’s most of
the schools system have technology standard that all students must attain throughout their
educations. It helps the students to prepare and possess the good education knowledge for
the entire academic year. Electronic gadgets are not only useful for the students but it also
helpful for teaching staff. The teachers are given proper training to use these advanced
gadgets to teach the students in an effective way. Learning with the advanced technology
motivates the students to think beyond the notebooks and assist them to improve their
learning skills. Learning from the Tablet PC is easy and can be practiced at home. Children’s
are the best users of Tablet PC and can deal with all the aspects of Tablet PC. It is easy,
portable and convenient to use.

4. Describe your experience with computers so far. Have you worked or played
with computers before? If so, why? Has your past experience with computers
influenced your decision to study them?

Answer:

In Elementary, we were herded into the library and seated in front of a big-screen
television. There, we watch videos on alphabets, rhymes, word pronunciation, and many
more. In secondary and tertiary education, for my classmates and me, computers were just
tools to get things done. Mastery of technological skills was a way to show we were
advancing further than our classmates. We also were hooked up to the Internet for the first
time. It was a dial-up connection, slow compared to the instantaneous broadband speeds
nowadays, but nonetheless, we were surfing the Net. In the recent times, I have been
surrounded by advances in digital technology, almost to the point where I cannot do my
work without it. Technology is advancing at such a rate that traditional ways of teaching
and learning are not pushing students and teachers to their full potential. By using IT
properly in the classroom, teaching and learning are enhanced and given a new dimension.
Computers should be studied not because it is the current trend but because through it,
work could be lighter, faster, and easier.

5. In this computer era of IT, do you agree with the use of computers in mapping
the human genome? Why?

Answer:

I agree. Mapping and sequencing the human genome will generate large amounts of
data, which must be sorted, analyzed, and stored for rapid retrieval to complete this
enormous task. Computers and their software programs provide the most important tool to
the molecular biologist today. A discussion of current capabilities and future needs in
computer hardware and software for the human genome project is the topic of this paper.
The use of computer programs to generate restriction maps, manage clone libraries,
manage sequence projects, and generate consensus sequences is presented. The massive
increase in speed and drop in the cost of sequencing allows scientists to take on studies of
unprecedented scale, which is necessary to make the conclusions and discoveries about
human disease that doctors can put into everyday practice with personalized treatments.
The amount of information that a genome researcher creates and which makes the basis of
his scientific work has grown a million times during the last two decades. Today, the
challenge does not consist in creating the data, but in exploring them and deducing
meaningful conclusions.
6. A factory is buying computerized systems and robots to handle many tasks,
meaning fewer laborers will be needed. The company needs people to run the
new equipment but it wants to hire new workers who already have computer
skills. Is the company obligated to keep the workers with no computer skills
and train them to use the equipment? Are workers obligated to learn these
new skills if they want to keep their jobs?

Answer:

Both the company and the workers have to meet the common end. The company is
obligated to train and upgrade skills of its employees as required by the regulations set by
the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). On the other hand, the employees are
obligated to comply. If the company do chooses to lay off employees, in replacement for
computer skilled worker, then labor protocols require them to pay. On the other side, if
employees refused to engage on the skills upgrade, such negligence can be the basis for
termination, as per DOLE laws. Today, nearly every job requires a basic understanding of
computers, and many jobs involve intermediate to advanced computer skills. This can
include knowledge of specific software, applications or devices. Below, you’ll discover more
information about the type of computer skills employers commonly look for in job
applicants. Some employers will require prior knowledge or experience with specific
applications, while others will offer on-the-job training. If you have a working knowledge of
commonly used software, you may be able to more easily learn how to use new programs.
Whether you’re employed in customer service, manufacturing, food service or tech,
employers use computer applications to automate certain tasks, streamline communication
and more. Job applicants with computer skills are highly sought-after due to the increase of
technology in the workplace. You can showcase your computer skills by identifying
computer-related requirements on job postings and explaining on your resume how you
meet or exceed those requirements with past experience.
