CARQUEST Stores – Intermec PF8T Printer Installation Instructions

These instructions are for the installation of Intermec Pf8t label printers on Win7 operating systems.
For a reinstall skip to the end of this document and follow steps.

 Do Not Plug the USB cable into the computer unless indicated in the Instructions.
 What you will need
 Open boxes, check contents
 Run power cords, USB cable, make sure the location and cables reach
 Setup printer, label, thermal ribbon
 Install the Printer Drivers
 Plug-in the USB cable
 In Exploris, change the printer assignment for the label printer to point to the Intermec PF8
 Test

Required Hardware and Supplies:


In the Intermec Printer box you need the power cord, power inverter brick, USB cable, a green bar, a
spindle for the new ribbon, a spindle with a cardboard tube on it to take up the used ribbon and the
printer itself. A supply of label rolls and 1 thermal ribbon roll.

Setup the printer.


Remove Shipping tape.

Open the Outer Cover and press the two tabs to raise the Print Carriage
Remove the test label created during Intermec’s quality control check.

Take a label roll and put the green bar through the center, put the green bar in the printer with the
labels looping over the top of the roll pointing to the 2 green guides. See the 3 pictures above.

Thread the label between the 2 green guides and adjust the distance to be snug but not binding the
labels.
Insert a new ribbon roll onto the ribbon supply shaft.

Feed the transfer ribbon from the ribbon supply shaft under the print head.
Wrap the ribbon around the ribbon shaft. Using the tape fitted at the front of the ribbon leader, attach
the leader to the top of the rewind core. Be careful to center align the ribbon leader with the core.

Close the print carriage by pressing firmly down on both sides. A loud click indicates the print
carriage locked into place.

Firmly close the printer’s top cover.


Choose a spot next to the computer that you will use to print the labels, taking into consideration for
the length of both the power and USB cables.

Put the printer into position, connect the power cord to the power brick, plug-in the power cable, to
both a power outlet and the printer. Plug-in the USB cable to the printer.

RP5700 & RP5800

Plug the printer in the computer in one of the available USB ports but DO NOT TURN ON THE
PRINTER YET!!

Printer Driver Install


 In CQLink go to the Patch Center
 Click on Intermec PF8 Label Printer Drivers
 Click Save, and save to the Desktop
1. Run

2. Accept the terms in the license agreement


3. Select Next

4. Select Next
5. Uncheck Read Install Instructions
6. CheckRun Driver Wizard
7. Select Finish

8. Remove all Intermec printer drivers from PC for a clean PF8T printer installation
a. Click on the Windows Start Icon in the lower left corner of the screen
b. Click on Run, then browse to C:\Intermec\InterDriver7\DriverWizard.exe and click on OK
c. Click on ‘Remove printer drivers’, then Next
d. Click on ‘Automatically remove all InterDrivers’, then Next
e. Click on Finish
f. Restart the PC
g. Rerun Steps 8.--A through E (If all drivers were removed the first time—it will go back to the Install
printer drivers screen—proceed to Step 9

9. Install PF8T driver on PC (Windows XP or Windows 7)


a. Click on the Windows Start Icon in the lower left corner of screen
b. Click on Run, then browse to C:\Intermec Technologies InterDriver7\DriverWizard.exe and click on OK

8. Select Install printer drivers, then Next.


10. Select Intermec Pf8t (203dpi) and then Select Next

11. Select USB001 Virtual printer port for USB and select Next

12. NOTE: If you do not see the USB port active then turn on the printer it will continue and prompt you to
select the PF8T (203dpi) driver.
13. Select Next
14. Select Finish

15. Then Close

16. Connect the USB cable from the printer into one of the USB ports on the PC and power the Printer ON.
a. You will get a message indicating “Device Driver Installing”. Wait for this process to complete.

To Configure the Pf8t Windows Driver


1. Select the Windows Start icon in the lower left corner of the screen and then Devices and Printers.
2. Double click on the Intermec Pf8t (203dpi) –icon
3. Select Printer and then Properties

4. Select Advanced
5. Then Printing Defaults

6. Select the drop down arrow beside Stock Name and delete out all the lables sizes EXCEPT “USER”
a. To delete the label; select the size and then Delete.

7. OLD Select New to create a CARQUEST label size


a. Enter Name: CARQUEST LABEL
b. Enter 2.00 (50.8 mm) in the Width and 1.12 in the Height, (28.448 mm)
c. Enter Liner Width Left 0.01 (0.254) Right 0.01, then OK
NEW: Select New to create a CARQUEST label size
a. Stock Name: CARQUEST LABEL
b. Enter 2.08 (52.8 mm) in the Width and 1.33 (33.8mm) in the Height
c. Enter 0.05 (1.3 mm) in Left and 0.05 (1.3 mm) in the Right, then click OK

8. OLD: Select New to create TLS Tools label size


a. Enter Name: TLS Tools
b. Enter 1.60 (40.64 mm)in the Width and .75 (19.05) in the Height,
c. Enter Liner Width Left 0.01 (0.254 mm) Right 0.01, then OK

NEW: Select New to create TLS Tools label size


a. Stock Name: TLS Tools
b. Enter 1.55 (39.4 mm) in the Width and .75 (19.1 mm) in the Height
c. Enter 0.05 (1.3 mm) in Left and 0.05 (1.3 mm) in the Right, then click OK
9. Select Edit to modify USER label size
a. Name Displayed: USER
b. Enter 4.00 (101.6 mm) in the Width and 4.00 in the Height,
c. Enter Liner Width Left 0.01 Right 0.01, then OK
10. Select the Stock tab, then make the following changes, then click Apply.
a. Print Method : Thermal Transfer

11. Select the “General” tab, then the “Preferences” button

12. Verify the settings match information found in steps 21-25.


13. Click on Ports tab
14. Uncheck Bidirectional Support Setting
15. Press Apply and OK

The Pf8t printer should now be ready to print labels.


Assign Label Printer to Exploris
1. Login Exploris on the PC where the Intermec label printer is being installed
2. Go to Menu
3. Select PC Setup
4. Select Assign Printers

5. Scroll down and select Label, so it is highlighted


6. Double click on Intermec PF8t (203 dpi)

7. Select Close
The device should be fully setup now.
NOTE: If a label printer is replaced, this process needs to be repeated and select the newest label printer
each time.
Test Printer– Print Price Labels from Exploris
1. Select Menu, then Inventory
2. Select Part Utility>Price Labels

3. Click on LABELS ON DEMAND


4. Beside Line: Type BAR in the Line field
5. Click the DISPLAY Button
6. Uncheck the  box next to Line located lower left of screen
7. Select one or two labels to print by  checking the box next to label.
8. Change the Output Type from Default to size that corresponds to the labels installed in printer.
9. Click Print
Reinstall
1. Check to see if intermec software is already installed. There should be a C:\intermec, C:\Program
Files(x86)\intermec, or C:\Program Files(x86)\Honeywell folder. You will need to run DriverWizard.exe in this folder.
2. Select Remove printer drivers.

3. Select Automatically remove all Interdrivers.

4. Click on Finish and it should prompt to Restart.


5. When done rebooting it should finish uninstall of drivers. There also might be another Restart popup.
6. Once complete you will need to delete the folder. If there are mulitple intermec folders then the driver wizard will
need to be run in those folders and then folder will need to be deleted.
7. Download latested intermec software from patch center.
8. Turn printer off and install setup.
9. Click on Next and accept the default location for C:\program files (X86)\Honeywell\Interdriver.

10. Make sure to uncheck Check for updates to Interdriver.


11. Turn printer on when Connect printer is on screen. If printer is not detect, then a dump mode will need to be
preformed.

12. Click Next on Specify printer name.

13. Click Finish.


14. Right click on intermec printer and select Printer properties. Click on Ports tab and uncheck enable bidirectional
support and Apply.
15. Click on Advanced tab and Printer defaults.
16. Click and delete all Stock label prefs and leaving just USER.

17. Click on EDIT for USER stock name and set 2.00 for Width and 1.13 for Height. Set liner Width Left to .03 and Right .
03, then OK. Click on APPLY to save changes.
18. Click on STOCK tab and set to Thermal Transfer for Print Method. Click APPLY to save changes.

19. Click on OK to close window.


20. Right click on printer and select printing preferences and set the same settings in steps 17-18.
21. Open Exploris set the printer assignments and test.
