LIGHTING DESIGN
M.ARCH(INTERIOR DESIGN)
LIGHTING DESIGN
Architectural lighting design  is a field within  architecture,  interior
design  and  electrical engineering  that is concerned with the design
of  lighting  systems, including natural light,  electric light, or both, to
serve human needs.

The design process takes account of:

• The kind of human activity for which lighting is to be provided

• The amount of light required

• The colour of the light as it may affect the views of particular

objects and the environment as a whole

• The distribution of light within the space to be lighted, whether

indoor or outdoor

• The effect of the lightened system itself on the user

DAY LIGHTING
Daylighting is the controlled admission of natural light, direct
sunlight, and diffused-skylight into a building to reduce
electric lighting and saving energy. By providing a direct link
to the dynamic and perpetually evolving patterns of outdoor
illumination, daylighting helps create a visually stimulating
and productive environment for building occupants, while
reducing as much as one-third of total building energy costs.
DAYLIGHTING
A daylighting system consists of systems, technologies, and architecture. While not all of
these components are required for every daylighting system or design, one or more of the
following are typically present:
• Daylight-optimized building footprint
• Climate-responsive window-to-wall area ratio
• High-performance glazing
• Daylighting-optimized fenestration design
• Skylights (passive or active)
• Tubular daylight devices
• Daylight redirection devices
• Solar shading devices
• Daylight-responsive electric lighting controls
• Daylight-optimized interior design (such as furniture design, space planning, and room
surface finishes)
TYPES OF TECHNOLOGY
➤ Exterior shading and control devices
➤ Glazing materials
➤ Aperture location
➤ Reflectances of room surfaces
➤ Integration with electric lighting controls
➤ Other lighting control schemes
DAY LIGHT FACTOR
➤ In architecture, a daylight factor is the ratio of the light level
inside a structure to the light level outside the structure.
➤ It is defined as : DF = (Ei/Eo) x 100%
Where,
Ei = luminance due to daylight at a point on the indoors
working plane
Eo= simultaneous outdoor luminance on a horizontal plane
from an unobstructed hemisphere of overcast sky.
