ICE/ SYNTHETIC DRUGS: A NEW

WEAPON OF WAR AGAINST PAKISTAN

Written by: Mr Irshadullah Afridi

Pakistan is geographically located in a very volatile region. Apart

from terrorism and war on terror against anti-state elements and
misguided extremist elements (religious or secular etc.) another
emerging threat is the menace of Synthetic drugs i.e. Ice, ecstasy,
Meth etc. Pakistan proximity to Narco producing regions of
Afghanistan is a formidable challenge to the state of Pakistan and its
security apparatus. India, Iran and China are the biggest producer of
Ephedrine in the region and here is a nexus emerging between
synthetic drugs and its raw material which is called as Precursor
Chemicals. The political turmoil in this region is giving birth to new
kind of war. Synthetic drugs and its requisite Precursors chemicals
are being used as a new weapon for an undeclared clandestine war
against the state of Pakistan and its society. It is pertinent to mention
that India is very eagerly putting its share in this new type of war
against Pakistan. The seizure of Indian Precursors Chemicals in K.P,
Baluchistan and adjacent newly merged FATA region is very alarming.
Due to the incapacity, lack of experience and absence of any well
coherent policy its severity is not being noticed by our civilian Law
enforcement agencies as most of them are mostly busy in chasing
petty nature crimes or interested in promotions, transfers’ and
bullying and fighting their departmental rivalries . Even if we look at
the districts the situation is very pathetic, the district policing is left
at the mercy of corrupt and incompetent lower level SHOs who are
domicile holders of the same district, therefore, criminal mafias has
successfully penetrated the security apparatus. The line departments
at districts and provincial levels are mostly busy in file work and
petty nature self-aggrandizing ceremonies and then post it on social
media F.B and twitter. Nothing concrete result has been shown by
these above mentioned institutions but indeed only lame excuses.

It is my firm belief now, that our recruitment system via

FPSC and PPSC is putting the very institutions of this country in
unsafe and incompetent hands and its recruitment mechanism is
completely outdated and rotten, hence a threat to our national
security. BRT in Peshawar, Pakistan railways etc all are technical
nature projects, however, the same are being handled by decision
makers who have no expertise or requisite qualification related to
the assigned project. When a medical doctor becomes a Police officer
and a student of Zoology becomes a Divisional superintendent
Pakistan railways and a dentist is entrusted with I.T related jobs, then
no power on this earth can save such a system from complete failure
and destruction.
