THE MERTAPHORS

T
he word of God contains a lot of metaphors. In
this book we are going to examine some of these
metaphors for purposes of enlightenment. The
metaphors are used to establish a better understanding
of God’s word in our lives.

They are many times that the word of God states things
metaphorically with the goal of enhancing our
understanding of certain principles. The Lord Jesus is
called the Lion of the tribe of Judah, which doesn’t
mean He is an actual lion. The Bible is showing us that
the characteristics of the lion are the ones at work in
Jesus.

John 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made
manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
John 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit
descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

5
The Spirit descended like a dove, though the spirit is
not a dove. The dove represented the Holy Spirit in the
sense that the dove has nine feathers on both wings and
five feathers on its tail. The five feathers on a dove’s tail
represent the five-fold ministry; the nine feathers on the
right wing represent the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit
while and the nine feathers on the left wing represent
the beatitudes. The two feet represent both the Old and
New Testament.

The Lord Jesus is said to be the lion and the lamb in the
Bible, because He has the characteristics of both of those
two animals at work in Him.

Revelations 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep
not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,
hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals
thereof.
Revelations 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the
throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders,
stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and
seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into
all the earth.

The Kingdom of God is said to be like a mustard seed

in one of Jesus’s parables.

6
Mat 13:31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed,
which a man took, and sowed in his field:
Mat 13:32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it
is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree,
so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches
thereof.
Mat 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The
kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took,
and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was
leavened.

In the realm of the Spirit there are things that exist but
cannot be expressed in the physical realm therefore
they are represented by things that exhibit their
characters.

CHAPTER TWO

8
THE SEAS

T
he Sea is not just the water lodged in a place. The
sea is constituted by the water and the creatures
therein.

Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven
be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land
appear: and it was so.
Genesis 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the
gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw
that it was good.

The Bible mentioned the sea when speaking of

multitudes of people.

Revelations 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels

which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto
me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the
great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

And,

9
Revelations 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which
thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and
multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

The sea was created by God and He has rule over it.
The Bible also speaks of the sea as a barrier.
Throughout the Bible bodies of water are often a barrier
to a blessing. God had to split the Red sea to free the
Israelites from slavery.

Exodus 14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the
sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east
wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the
waters were divided.
Exodus 14:22 And the children of Israel went into the midst
of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall
unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Therefore, the water was a barrier. Joshua also faced the

barrier of water.

Joshua 3:15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto
Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were
dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his
banks all the time of harvest,)

10
Joshua 3:16 That the waters which came down from above
stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam,
that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the
sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and
the people passed over right against Jericho.

A barrier is something that hinders a person from going

to the next level in life. It blocks progress in a person’s
life. As God created the Sea and the people He has rule
over both.

Psalms 89:8 O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD

like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
Psalms 89:9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the
waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Psalms 89:10 Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that
is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong
arm.

For every next level, there is a barrier. The sea served as

a barrier to the Israelites when they wanted to reach the
land of milk and honey.

Isaiah 51:10 Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the
waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea
a way for the ransomed to pass over?

11
The sea has a lot of things within it, including monsters
and creatures of the dark side. The sea, or rather water
bodies, such as lakes, rivers and oceans also symbolize
death, evil and chaos.

Isaiah 57:20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when
it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt

Therefore, the sea is said to be troubled because there

are sea creatures that are evil.

Psalms 74:13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength:

thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
Psalms 74:14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces,
and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the
wilderness.

The creatures found in the sea are not natural to God’s

original creation. The Lord used water to destroy the
earth in the time of Noah and all the evil got consumed
by the waters.

Revelations 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and
saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten

12
horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads
the name of blasphemy.
Revelations 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a
leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth
as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power,
and his seat, and great authority.
Revelations 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were
wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all
the world wondered after the beast.

There are beasts of the sea that are out to destroy lives.

Daniel 7:1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon

Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then
he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
Daniel 7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by
night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon
the great sea.
Daniel 7:3 And four great beasts came up from the sea,
diverse one from another.
Daniel 7:4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I
beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted
up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man,
and a man's heart was given to it.
Daniel 7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a
bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs

13
in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus
unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

The lion was coming from the sea therefore it was a sea
lion. A lion symbolizes strength, power and a sea is a
symbol of death, chaos, evil and people. A sea lion is a
metaphor for the power of evil. A sea-lion speaks of
demonic forces that have the power and strength to
cause death and evil. This is why in John’s revelation of
the new heaven and earth, the sea did not exist.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth:

for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and
there was no more sea.
Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new
Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as
a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven
saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will
dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God
himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow,
nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the
former things are passed away.

14
This meant death and evil forces will no longer exist in
this new earth.

The Bible shows us that most of the sea creatures were

evil and demonic. Let us examine at the sea horse.

Horses are used to symbolize or represent carnal

strength or trust in the flesh.

Psalms 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but

we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

Psalms 33:17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither

shall he deliver any by his great strength.

A sea horse is a metaphor for putting trust in demonic

forces that can't serve at all, whose power of death and
evil is limited to God's power of life and righteousness.

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help;

and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are
many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but
they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the
LORD!

15
Horses represent vain power, pride and boastfulness –
which are things that are not founded on righteousness.

Psalms 32:9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which

have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with
bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Therefore, because a horse represents pride and vain,

and God hates pride, it explains why Jesus showed up
on a donkey. Zechariah prophesied about the Messiah
on a donkey, not on a horse because of what it
represents.

Having dreams or visions of water is a sign of the evil

that is being plotted against a person. The important
thing to do is to give oneself wholly to prayer and
study of the word.

CHAPTER THREE

17
ONLY GOD SAVES

G
od is the only one who can save a person from
sea creatures. Consider the story of Jonah and
the great fish.

Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to

swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish
three days and three nights.

The fish was already evil because it swallowed up

Jonah. God caused the fish to swallow Jonah, and also
spit him out. Jesus walked on the sea to show that He
had power to conquer it.

Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus

went unto them, walking on the sea.
Matthew 14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on
the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they
cried out for fear.
Matthew 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them,
saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

18
Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if
it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Matthew 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was
come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to
Jesus.
Matthew 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he
was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save
me.

Jesus came walking on the sea which contains all the

evil creatures. The same Bible says Peter walked on
water, depicting the difference between the water and
the sea. When Peter saw he was on the sea, he began to
sink.

Jesus conquered the water spirits because He had the

power to do so. Peter did not have the power, he was
about to be consumed as a result, until the Lord saved
him. Therefore, as we have established the presence of
evil in a sea, we discover that Jesus was baptized in
water, and was immersed. This meant that He died and
rose again.

In this time, God is delivering those who have been

struggling with water spirits and those who have been
suffering spiritual attacks through dreams. These water
19
creatures have been exposed and they will in no longer
continue their evil charge against the chosen people of
God. Sea creatures will no longer have power over us.
The power and strength to overcome evil has been
granted to us!
