Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Timeline is a great productivity tool to incorporate into the classroom due to it’s free access and availability in
the classroom. You need nothing more than a computer to create one! It can be used outside of the
classroom as well for students to organize their thoughts and information on a certain topic. It is an engaging
way for students to learn, and is beneficial in keeping engagement high among students while they are
learning.
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will be introduced to Thomas Jefferson during a whole-class discussion. We will watch an
informational video about him and the things he has done before discussing it as a class. The teacher will ask
the students what important information they gathered from the video and discussion and write down their
thoughts using the interactive white board at the front of the classroom.

The students will then get in groups and further research Thomas Jefferson and they will come up with
another event that is important in his life to add onto the class Timeline. They will present their research to
me and I will help them insert it into the Timeline. They will add images to help support their event as well.
When every group has added their event, we will revisit the Timeline as a class and discuss the different
events in detail.

Reflective Practice:
This activity allows for students to create something collaboratively with their classmates. It gives them a
sense of power and allows for them to be engaged in learning and gaining knowledge on a subject. The lesson
can be extended by having students take their information and record a podcast on the life of Thomas
Jefferson using Audacity and posting it on our classroom blog for their parents to see what all they have
learned. Each group can record their individual event on the timeline.
