It's been said that literatue is reflection of society.

While reflecting it also plays an immense role

to transform the society by constructing the individuals. Literature plays vital role in the
development of a reasonable mind and emotionally-balanced personality. In ancient Greece era,
the children of royal family were taught history, philosophy, literature and rhetoric skills. This
educational practice was aimed to prepare effective and complete person to play eminent role
in estate affairs and wars. Because, literature not only communicate feelings and provide
entertainment but also the history. Which generate innovative ideas. These ideas develop
values, perceptions, and shape ideologies. Which affect on one's motivation, actions and
reactions. Otherwise history would never have seen the events like Pakistan Movement and
French Revolution.

" Literature irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become" said C. S. Lewis. It's true
that literature helps us in analysing important issues of life. We come to know about the
problems of people in particular situations, and we also come to know the possible solutions. It
enlightens the situations that we cannot or have not experience(d). It develops analytical and
critical thinking, and fosters the understanding of self and others. It introduces the reader to a
range of aspects such as culture and heritage through creative writing, symbols, metaphors,
futuristic images, etc. In case of foreign or setting of remote region we imagine what we have
not seen yet.

Literature nurtures the individuals; no other discipline serve this purpose. The question is if
literature is so productive in building the great nation so why does our education system and
society avoid it? It can be said that our society's individuals have less or no interest in reading.
But, fact is that there is low financial status of literature in our society. There is unavailablity of
good jobs for people studying literature. Consequently people have moved towards science and
technology. Meanwhile, the other reason can be expensive cost of the books that are above the
approach of middle class people. On the other hand, there are not enough public libraries.

Some private schools teach only English classic literature. Which is failed to give desired results.
Because, the children are unable to connect with the literature which is remote from his
cognitive world. We have e failed to introduce Eastern Classical Literature to our children such
as Arabian Nights, Stories from Sheikh Saudi, Molana Rumi and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. The
study of indigenous literature develops a sense of identity and community in the readers. But,
the foreign literature widens the vision, promotes tolerance, and inseminates the skill of
comparative study.

It is absolute that if we subtract literature from education of society the frustration and
ignorance will continue to boost. It must be in the education. And, the aim of education must be
the development of morals and emotional stability in the individual.
