DIODES
A. Describing Symbols and Types
1. a normal diode
This type of diode is the most common diode in electronic circuits, especially in
power supply circuits and radio frequency (RF) circuits. This type of diode is also
called a Normal Diode because it is the most commonly used standard diode or
Rectifier Diode because it is usually used as a rectifier in a Power Supply. This diode
is also known as PN Junction Diode.
2. Bridge Diodes
Diode Bridge is basically a diode consisting of 4 normal diodes which are generally
used as a full-wave rectifier in the Power Supply circuit. By using this Diode Bridge,
we no longer need to assemble 4 normal diodes into a series of AC to DC voltage
rectifiers because they have been packaged by the manufacturer into 1 component
only. This Diode Bridge has 4 foot terminals namely 2 foot Input terminals for
alternating current / AC (AC) input and 2 foot terminals for Positive Output (+) and
Negative Output (-).
3. Zener Diodes
C. Describing Function
Rectifier diode (ordinary diode or bridge diode) which functions as a rectifier to AC
current to DC current.
Zener diode which functions as a safety circuit and also as a voltage stabilizer.
LED diodes that function as indicator lights or lighting
Photo diodes that function as light sensors
Schottky diodes that function as controllers
D. Describing Applcation
With two AC signals that are different from this phase, the two diodes, each of
which function as a half-wave rectifier can work alternately.
One diode directs the positive cycle of the upper winding. Then one diode then
switches to a positive cycle from the lower winding which is a phase reversal from
the negative cycle of the AC input signal.
