what is industry 4.0 ?

― The term "Industrie 4.0", shortened to I4.0 or simply I4, originated in

2011 from a project in the high-tech strategy of the German government,
which promotes the computerization of manufacturing.

― The term "Industrie 4.0" was publicly introduced in the same year at the
Hannover Fair.

― The term “Industry 4.0” means the smart factory in which smart digital
devices are networked and they communicate with raw materials, semi-
finished products, products, machines, tools, robots and men.

― Industry 4.0 is characterized by flexibility, efficient use of resources and

integration of customers and business partners in the business process.

industry 1.0
The first industrial revolution starts around 1780s through
the introduction of mechanical production facilities with
help of water and steam power.
SEMNAS K3 UNAIR 2019

industry 2.0
The second industrial revolution took place 30 years later when the first
electricity powered assembly line was built in 1870. The era of mass
production has begun.
SEMNAS K3 UNAIR 2019

industry 3.0

The third industrial revolution started in the late 1960s when the first
Programmable Logistic Controller [PLC] Modicon 084 was built. It enabled
production automation trough the use of electronic and IT systems.

industry 4.0
The industrial revolution 4.0 is happening today trough the use of Cyber-Physical
Systems [CPS]. CPS are physical and engineered systems whose operations are
monitored, coordinated, controlled and integrated by a computing and communication
core. Its automation systems equipped with machine learning algorithms.

industry 4.0 why it matters?

Cost Complexity
― Eliminate waste & losses ― Sub-Nano technology
― Eliminate hidden cost ― Cyber Physical System
― Cost reduction ― Exponential technologies

― Personalize ― Digitalization
― Fast, Cheap, Quality ― Increase competitiveness
― Total Customer Satisfaction ― Globalization

Customer Competition

industry 4.0 : six design principles

― Interoperability: the ability of CPS, humans and Smart Factories to
connect and communicate with each other via the Internet of Things and
the Internet of Services.
― Virtualization: a virtual copy of the Smart Factory which is created by
linking sensor data (from monitoring physical processes) with virtual plant
models and simulation models.
― Decentralization: the ability of CPS within Smart Factories to make
decisions on their own.
― Real-Time Capability: the capability to collect and analyze data and
provide the insights immediately.
― Service Orientation: offering of services (of CPS, humans and Smart
Factories) via the Internet of Services
― Modularity: flexible adaptation of Smart Factories for changing
requirements of individual modules
