complicated.

A detailed study in this field can help many people get back to their
wrecked houses by suitable strengthening techniques at low price.

This study has shown that flexible diaphragm behaves as stiff if proper connection is
ensured increasing the load carrying capacity of the building. However, comparing the
results from stress analysis in walls and storey displacements, the fully stiff diaphragms
and connections are not always feasible, hence in depth study on how much
deformation capacity and ductility is desired can be studied. Some points are concluded
after discovering shortcomings during the course of this thesis:

 For simulating real shake table experiment to better accuracy, strong and
powerful computers with high storage ability is expected after numerical
modeling of Sathiparan (2016) experiment verification.
 The timber joist and concrete have been idealized as isotropic with elastic
properties. Next modelling approach can be nonlinear properties of timber and
understanding the complete behavior of structure in details.
 The connectors (nails and shear studs )stiffness have been directly taken from
previous experiments and literatures, it is strongly recommended to carry out
such experiments in Nepal and use in numerical modeling like this to check if
the numerical modelling meets experimental study aims.
 Hysteresis (unloading) of connectors if accounted will depict the response of
structure closer to real scenario.
 Use of higher order elements, i.e. solid elements to model masonry will give
more accuracy and clearer vision.
 Out of plane strengthening of diaphragm (i.e. in direction parallel to joists) to
walls can also be checked on.
 Next approach can be to study about the different yielding behavior of
connection between diaphragms and walls and also strengthening of walls at
incremental dynamic analysis and cyclic pushover analysis.
 The strengthening of walls along with connection improvement of diaphragm
to wall connection study can be next research topic and the study can be
extended on real 2-4 storey buildings to capture real life effects.
