FEDERIGO, Italian elite class, around 20 years of age and with

gentle breeding, ambles over.

FEDERIGO

Such a nice place of Heavens,

here in the good place of Florence

Federigo saw a good place to watch the stars, and sat down.

MONNA GIOVANNA ENCOUNTER

While stargazing and sightseeing, a beautiful lady passed by at

front of Federigo

FEDERIGO (mesmerized)

Such a beautiful lady,

so adorable and so lovely

She’s the love of my life,

I’ll do everything for her to be my wife

FEDERIGO’S LOST HEART TO THE NOBLE LADY

Federigo gives sumptuous banquets to Monna

Federigo distributes large number of gifts to Monna

Federigo spending money without any restraint whatsoever just

for Monna

EXT. ALBERIGHI HOUSE

In the house of well-off Mr. Messer Filippo Alberighi, father of

Federigo, dim light and lonely music surrounds.

FEDERIGO

I have squandered all for Monna to love BUT worn!

Now I have nothing, not even profit in return.

And since I have lost my entire fortune,

I have to move in the place I have left –

To live in my farm with my finest Falcon.

CUT

FADE IN:

MONNA’S HUSBAND’S ILL AND WILL

INT. CAMPI – Day

In the farm, Federigo was taking care of his plants. Then, talk
to his falcon.

FEDERIGO

It’s been awhile since I left Florence,

I wonder how my Monna Giovanna is, now.

DISSOLVE IN:

INT. MONNA’S HOUSE

In their house at Florence was in complete silence. Monna’s
husband is not feeling well. Monna and her husband talk near the
door of their house.

MONNA

I love the weather today (SMILE).

Look! Our son is so happy playing.

HUSBAND

Yeah! For sure… He wou… would.. (FELL ON THE FLOOR)

MONNA

Husband…! How… what happened?! (holding with

care)

(Let her Husband sit on a chair)

Are you okay?

HUSBAND

(Pause of silence before answering)

I feel that I can no longer stay longer with you

Monna. (talking in ill-manner)

I know our son’s still young, I want you to take

Their son saw his father died from a distant and come to her
mother crying. They both cry.

INTERCUT MONNA’S HUSBAND ILL AND WILL

FADE TO:
SUMMER ENCOUNTER

Monna and her son was ready packing their things to go the
country estate of theirs, near Federigo’s farm.

MONNA

Let’s go son, we’ll have a great summer then.

FADE IN:

INT. FEDERIGO’S FARM

While Federigo was taking good care of his plants and animals,
he saw a child walking near his farm.

FEDERIGO

Hey there! (FRIENDLY SMILE)

Are you new from the neighborhood?

CHILD

Yes Mr.! (saw a dog) WOW! A dog

Goes near the dog and cuddle it.

FEDERIGO

Hi Kid! I’m Federigo by the way and

That’s my dog Bruno.

The child still continues to cuddle the dog and so happy.

Federigo walked near his falcon and play with it.

FEDERIGO

If you want, you can play here

for the next days.

The child’s attention was then suddenly drawn to Federigo’s

falcon with great like of having it but didn’t concede because
he saw the man’s immense attachment to his falcon.
INTERCUT SUMMER ENCOUNTER

FADE TO:

CHILD’s REQUEST

INT. Monna’s Vacation House

Monna’s son was whole day on his bed because of ailment. Monna
sat beside her son and touch its hair gently.

MONNA (O.S.)

Son, are you okay?

You look so pale... (cry)

The child is just still on his bed, just looking plainly on her
mother’s eyes.

MONNA (O.S.) (CONT’D)

Tell me son, how will you be cured and go back jolly?

Is there anything you wanted? What is it? (Crying)

Because if it is possible for me to acquire it,

I would move mountain and earth to obtain it.

CHILD

Mother, if you could arrange for me to have

Federigo’s falcon, I believe I should soon get better.

Monna wiped all her tears by her hands and unceasingly comforted
her son.

Monna consider what she could do about her son’s request.

MONNA (ON HER MIND)

How can I possibly go to him, or even send anyone,

To ask him for his falcon, which to judge from all

 I have heard is the finest that ever flew, as well as

Being the only thing that keeps him alive?

And how can I be so heartless as to deprive so noble

A man of his one remaining pleasure?

Her mind filled with reflections of this sort, she remained in

silence. At length, however, her maternal instincts gained the
upper hand and she resolved, come what may. And so she replied,

MONNA

Bear up, my son, and see whether you can start

feeling any better. I give you my word that I shall

go and fetch it for you first thing tomorrow morning

INT. FEDERIGO’S FARM – day

Monna with a woman in accompaniment directly at morning goes to

Federigo for the promise she made to her son about the falcon.

Federigo busy in his two little jobs in the garden, on his

astonishment, heard the voice of Monna Giovanna and was at the
front door.

Federigo rushed and greeted her but he was advanced by Monna.

Federigo received her with a bow.

MONNA

Greetings, Federigo!

I have come to make amends for the harm you have

suffered on my account, by loving me more than you
ought to have done. As a token of my esteem, I should
like to take breakfast with you this morning, together
with my companion here, but you must not put yourself
to any trouble.
 FEDERIGO

My Lady, (with all humility) I cannot recall ever

having suffered any harm on your account. On the
contrary I have gained so much that my hospitality
will not amount to very much.

So saying, he led her unassumingly into the house and thence

into his garden, where, since there was no one else he could
call upon to chaperon her

FEDERIGO (CONT’D)

My Lady, as there is nobody else available, this good

woman, who is the wife of the farmer here will keep
you company whilst I go see about setting the table.

CUT

INT. FALCON AT HARM

On the poverty of Federigo, he had nothing to set before the

lady whose love he had entertained so lavishly in the past, he
cannot find any valuables or money.

His gaze alighted on his precious falcon, picked it up, he

decided that since he has nowhere else to turn, it would make a
worthy dish for such a lady as this.

Without thinking twice he wrung the bird’s neck and promptly

handed it over to his housekeeper to be their meal.

FADE IN: FEDERIGO’S HINT FOR BREAKFAST

Federigo readied the table with spotless linen and goes back to
Monna and her companion to tell them that the meal is ready.

FEDERIGO

Monna, the meal is ready. Follow me to my simple

preparation this morning.

INTERCUT FALCON AT HARM/ FEDERIGO’S HINT FOR BREAKFAST

FADE IN: MONNA’S PURPOSE BREAK OUT

They eat the meal having some conversations about anything.

After sometime when they’re almost done eating . . .

MONNA

The meal is so delicious; we’re elated for your

gesture of hospitality in inviting us for this meal.

FEDERIGO

Oh it’s my pleasure to eat with you on this beautiful day

Monna suddenly shook his head and secretly look her companion,
signaling for a moment to say what their real purpose is. Her
companion affirmed and Monna broaches her subject in coming. . .

MONNA (O.S.)

Ahm. . . Federigo, I do not doubt for a moment,

Federigo, that you will be astonished at my
impertinence when you discover my principal reason for
coming here, especially when you recall your former
mode of living and my virtue, which you possibly
mistook for harshness and cruelty. But if you had ever
had any children to make you appreciate the power of
parental love, I should think it certain that you
would to some extent forgive me.

However, the fact that you have no children of your

own does not exempt me, a mother, from the laws common
to all other mothers. And being bound to obey those
laws, I am forced, contrary to my own wishes and to
all the rules of decorum and propriety, to ask you for
 something to which I know you are very deeply
attached—which only natural, seeing that it is the
only consolation, the only pleasure, the only
recreation remaining to you in your present extremity
of fortune. The gift I am seeking is your FALCON, to
which my son has taken so powerful a liking, that if I
fail to take it to him I fear that he succumb to be
illness from which he is suffering, and consequently I
shall lose him. In imploring you to give me this
falcon, I appeal, not to your love, for you are under
no obligation to me on that account, but rather to
your noble heart, whereby you have proved yourself
superior to all others in the practice of courtesy.

MONNA (o.S.) (CONT’D)

Do me this favor, then, so that I may claim that

through your generosity I have saved my son’s life,
thus placing him forever in your debt.

When Federigo heard that it was that Monna wanted, and realized
that he could not oblige her because he had given her the falcon
to eat, he then burst into tears.

Monna misrecognized, at first thought, that the tears in to

being part with Federigo to his falcon, and she would prefer not
to have it. But, on her second thought, she said nothing and
waited for Federigo to stop crying and give her answer, which
eventually he did . . .

FEDERIGO

My lady,

(ever since God decreed that you should become the

object of my love, I have repeatedly had cause to
complain of Fortune’s hostility towards me. But all
her precious blows were slight by comparison with the
one she has dealt me now. Nor shall I everbe able to
forgive her, when I reflect that you desire from me a
trifling favor which she made it impossible for me to
 concede. The reason is simple, and I shall explain it
in few words)

When you did me the kindness of telling me that you

wished to breakfast with me, I considered it right and
proper, having regard your excellence and merit, to do
everything within my power to prepare a more sumptuous
dish than those I would offer to my ordinary guests.
My thoughts therefore turned to the falcon you have
asked me for and knowing its quality, I reputed it a
worthy dish to set before you. So, I had it roasted
and served to you on the trencher this morning, and I
could not have wished for a better way of disposing
it. But now, that I discover that you wanted it in a
different form,

FEDERIGO (CONT’D)

I am so distressed by my inability to grant your

request that I shall never forgive myself for as long
as I live.

In confirmation of Federigo’s words, he caused the feathers

talons, and beak to be cast on the table before Monna.

After hearing and seeing, Monna reproached him at first for

killing so fine as falcon but then she became lost in admiration
of his magnanimity of spirit which no amount of poverty had
managed to diminish, nor ever would.

Monna lose the hopes of obtaining the falcon and began to feel
seriously concerned for the health of her son.

MONNA

Thank you for your hospitality and good intentions.

We have to leave now.

Monna took her leave so sadly . . .

FADE IN:

The child died and Monna unceasingly cried/mourn to her son.

CUT

NEW LIFE

INT. MONNA’S HOUSE

After a period of mourning and continued weeping, Monna was

repeatedly urged by her brothers to remarry . . .

BROTHER 1

Why won’t you marry again Monna? You’re still young

And though Monna would prefer to remain widow, she recalled

Federigo’s high merits and his latest act of generosity – to
have killed such a fine falcon in her honor.

MONNA

If only it were pleasing you, I should willingly

remain as I am; but since you are so eager or me to
take a husband, you may be certain that I shall never
marry any other man except Federigo degli Alberighi.

Her brothers made fun of her

BROTHER 1 & 2

Silly girl, don’t talk such nonsense! How can you

marry a man who hasn’t a penny with which to bless
himself?

MONNA

My brother, I am well aware of that.

But I would sooner have a gentleman without riches,

than riches without a gentleman

Seeing that Monna’s mind was made up, and knowing Federigo to be
a gentleman of great merit even though he was poor, her brothers
fell in with her wishes and handed her over Federigo, along with
immense fortune.

Thenceforth, Federigo found himself married to the great lady,

Monna, with whom he was so deeply in love, and very rich into
the bargain, Federigo Managed his affairs more prudently, and
live with her in happiness to the end of his days.

FADE IN:

INT. FEDERIGO AND MONNA’S HOUSE

The couple we’re seen at the end who grew old together happy
laughing at a couch.

SUMMARY
There was once a man named Federigo from from Florence who fell in love with a woman named
Monna Giovanna, who in her time was considered one of the loveliest and most adorable women to be
found in Florence.

(At one point, he was very wealthy and he spent all his riches trying to impress her by throwing grand
parties which later lead to him becoming poor.)

Considering Monna was the most beautiful and charming woman in Florence, she cared little for these
things done on her behalf.

She of course married rich and had a son.

Later Monna, become a widow when her husband feel ill. Which forced Monna to moved back to the
town Federigo lives in. Her son became ill and asked for one request – Federigo’s falcon.
So Monna Showed up at Federigo’s door one day unannounced.
“Federigo I have come to compensate you for the harm you have suffered on my account by loving me
more than you needed to. I intend to dine with you – a simple meal – this very day.
Federigo welcomes her in right away escorting her to the garden for a meal.
Federigo then realizes he doesn’t have suitable food for this worthy lady.

Until he sets his eyes upon his good falcon – His prized possession.
Without further thought, he wrung its neck and quickly gave it to the servant girl to pluck and roast.

As they are eating the dinner, Monna explains why she is really there.
She explain, “ My son is very ill and his dying wish was to have Federigo’s falcon as his own”
Federigo begins to weep and states that he killed the falcon to make his meal.
Monna was upset, losing all hope of getting the falcon and perhaps improving her sons health. She then
thanked Federigo and left in grief.
Days later Monna’s son passed away. She then sees where her husband was buried.
After the period of her mourning and bitterness had passed, she was repeatedly urged by her brothers o
remarry.

Monna says, “if you wish me to take a husband, you may rest assured that I shall take no man but
Federigo degli Alberghi”

Her brothers say she’s foolish for wanting such a man with not even a penny to his name.
She defends, I would rather have a man who needs money than money that needs a man”
She visits Federigo again very apprehensive. Not yet willing to allow herself to love again.

After thinking of Federigo and how noble he is and in love with her, she decides to let go and give in.
When federigo found himself the husband of such a great lady he lived with her happily the rest of his
days.
