In every visual art during these two periods, a distinctive use of unity and harmony is

visible and the most often used theme was religion. Generally, there are visible differences and

similarities between the Baroque and the Renaissance periods and there difference respects are

unique. It is said that the Baroque period was generated when the era of Renaissance ended,

which then progressed in to a sophisticated dramatic kind of work. The Baroque art techniques

amalgamated with the Renaissance techniques and advanced along with drama, intensity and the

emotional nature of the Renaissance. Renaissance initially was used to solve problems of

naturalism with gothic art then it shifted to Mannerism where it introduced expression then

Baroque where the art became more disciplined and with enormous dimensions.

The art of Baroque took from the art of Renaissance on using color and light realism

focus, perspective effects that were stronger as well as the theme of religion. The Mona Lisa a

famous piece of art from the Renaissance era, by the Legendary Leonardo da Vinci and another

wonderful piece of art from the Baroque era known as The Straw Hat painted by Peter Paul

Rueben are two different pieces that depicts the similarities and the differences of the two eras.

The two paintings illustrate a lady of young age, the poses are almost identical and their faces

have some sort of a slight grin. In both, the background are foggy and full of enigma. However,

the background of the Mona Lisa is different as a result of Leonardo da Vinci’s attention to

detail. The drama, intensity and use of color in Leonardo’s painting well-illustrated. In the other

painting, The Straw Hat, Rueben put all his focus on the Lady and the background was not as

catchy, however the picture itself was bold and the color tone, which was not as deep and dark as

the Mona Lisa made the entire painting stand out.

Another art of the Baroque era is The Fall of Phaeton art of 1604 which was described as

having material of dense masses, kinetic energy, and an academic balance of monument with

flashing light and appropriate color. A painting of the renaissance era is the Expulsion from

Paradise by Masaccio, which was just described as dramatic. In has the inventions and ideas and

grips the heart and mind and overpowers the viewer emotions in a humanistic drive.
