Welcome to the 2014 Pacific Rim Championships

On behalf of Gymnastics Canada and the Pacific Alliance

of National Gymnastic Federations , welcome to the 2014
Pacific Rim Championships and thank you for joining us
for this celebration of excellence.

The Pacific Rim Championship is a multi discipline

international competition providing the opportunity to
showcase some of the best Junior and Senior gymnasts in
Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics.

This Championship is first and foremost about building strong relationships and friendships
among the Pacific Rim nations and we are extremely pleased to have partnered with Gymnastics
BC to host this prestigious event in Richmond.

The success in the organization of a major event like the Pacific Rim Championships would not
be possible without the tremendous work of all volunteers, coaches, judges and support staffs.
Thank you to the Richmond and British Columbia communities for their strong support of this
event.

The performances you will witness this week take talent, character and determination. We know
you will be thrilled by this week’s competition, in the pursuit of excellence. Enjoy the show!

Ce championnat est avant tout un événement qui uni et crée des liens et des amitiés entre les

Welcome to the 2014 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships at the Richmond Olympic Oval!!
Gymnastics BC is pleased to bring these championships back to British Columbia.

Since 1969, Gymnastics BC has been providing leadership in the growth and development of
gymnastics throughout the province. We know that gymnastics is the foundation of all human
movement. It provides a solid basis of important skills such as balance, strength, flexibility and
overall body awareness that can be transferred to all other athletic activities.

All participants develop lifelong skills while engaging in social interactions with peers in a fun and
positive environment! Gymnastics embraces the concept of providing a positive, nurturing
environment from which to grow.

The 2014 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships are one the world’s most prestigious international
gymnastics events. Junior and senior athletes in men’s artistic, women’s artistic, trampoline and
rhythmic gymnastics will compete under the magnificent roof of the Richmond Olympic Oval.

An event of this magnitude is not possible without the support from our sponsors and partners: the
Government of Canada, Government of BC and City of Richmond as well as our numerous
sponsors, both national and local. And to our many volunteers, a very special and heartfelt thank-
you.

Good-luck to all of the athletes – you have trained hard for this moment, enjoy it. Thank-you to the
coaches and judges, your commitment to our sport is why gymnastics in continues to grow and

About the championships
Women’s artistic gymnastics
The Pacific Rim Gymnastics
Championships, held every two years, are
one of the premier international gymnastics
events. It showcases the top male and
female gymnasts from the Pacific Rim
countries competing in artistic (men’s
and women’s) gymnastics, rhythmic
gymnastics, and trampoline.
The Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships
feature gymnasts from Australia, Canada,
China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Costa Rica,
Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand,
Panama, Peru, Philippines, Singapore and
the United States.
Canada last hosted the championships in
2002 in Burnaby, BC.

l’Anneau du Pacifique, présentés tous
les deux ans, sont une des principales
compétitions internationales de
gymnastique. Ils mettent en évidence les
meilleurs gymnastes masculins et féminins
des pays de l’Anneau du Pacifique qui
s’affrontent en gymnastique artistique
(hommes et femmes), gymnastique
rythmique et trampoline.

About Gymnastics Canada

First established in 1969, Gymnastics Canada (GCG) is the National

governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada. Gymnastics
Canada works closely with the twelve Provincial federations and the
700 local clubs to provide a broad range of programs and services to
meet the needs of all participants (260,000 registered participants).

Gymnastics Canada leads and governs the Canadian gymnastics

system, directs High Performance in pursuit of international excellence and guides and /or
partners in the development of quality and innovative gymnastics programming.

Gymnastics is a multi-discipline sport with two identities, one as a foundation sport and
the other as a competitive sport. Canada is recognized as a world leading gymnastics
country through the achievement of international sport excellence, growth of the sport and
demonstrated sport organizational excellence.

The Gymnastics disciplines are: Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline

Gymnastics, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics and Gymnastics for All.

Gymnastics BC refers to the full member clubs and other
affiliated organizations, all of the individual members,
the Board of Directors, the volunteer committees and the
provincial office and staff in Vancouver.
The disciplines of women’s artistic gymnastics, men’s
artistic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, acrobatic
gymnastics, aerobic gymnastics and recreational
gymnastics are all serviced.

and what do they do? There are seven full-time and six-
part-time staff who provide advice and counsel to members,
enforce Gymnastics BC rules, policies and procedures,
organize events, develop and administer programs for
competitive and recreational gymnastics and communicate
with Gymnastics BC’s membership and the public.
The folks at the provincial office make the
rules, right? Actually, no. The policies and procedures
governing Gymnastics BC are developed and approved
by volunteer committees, the volunteer board of directors
or the membership as a whole. The provincial office staff
provide administrative assistance, continuity and research.
Can I get more information about what goes
on with GBC? Anyone interested in gymnastics in B.C.
can sign up to receive a variety of GBC communications.
Choose from the weekly e-Bulletin with current information
and updates; the monthly PLAY newsletter featuring
recreational gymnastics or the bi-montly Layout gymnastics
magazine. Also available are technical updates and new
