There are four main approaches an educator may take in teaching. These approaches

include, behavioral, cognitive, humanist and social psychological. In a behavioral approach, the

teacher may characterize learning by measurable terms. The teacher may also use reinforcers for

students that demonstrate positive reactions in both social and academic areas (Ferguson, 2019).

A teacher who demonstrates a cognitive approach to classroom management will deploy a

counseling approach which engages the student to determine their actions for themselves

(Fergusen, 2019). The third approach is described as a humanist approach. In this approach, the

teacher will allow students to manage themselves as well as their learning environment

(Fergusen, 2019). The teacher would merely act as the facilitator in this approach and ultimately

puts the students in the driver seat as to how to conduct themselves. Lastly, the teachers may use

the social psychological approach. In this measure, the student will interact far more with each

other and will learn in a more cooperative way. I believe that having strong social skills is crucial

for a student to succeed in the classroom as well as in their personal lives. It is for this reason

that I have chosen to take a social psychological approach within my classroom. I will

demonstrate this style of teaching by engaging my students to work together whenever

appropriate. By clustering students of various skills sets students can learn by committee. While I

believe that this is an effective approach, I also intent to adjust this model for students with

IEP’s, students who are identified as English Learners, and with respect to each students

religious or cultural beliefs. I have included a set of fifteen classroom rules below for your

review. Classroom rules do more than encourage positive behavior. They also assist students in

recognizing societal norms (Sanford Inspire, 2019).

1. Always raise your hand when you have a question. This will ensure that only one

student is speaking at a time and will allow other students to hear the question and

answer.

2. Keep hands to yourself at all times. No student shall attempt to get another students

attention by laying their hands on each other.

3. Always show respect for your classmates. Students shall not tease or is respect each

other or the teacher.

4. Help a student in need. If you notice a student struggled in a situation and you are

able to assist, please do so. Cooperative learning is strongly encouraged.

5. Keep all materials and supplies put away neatly. Make sure you keep your materials

organized and easy to get to.

6. Ask permission to use the bathroom. Bathroom privileges will be given when

appropriate. Students caught abusing this privilege may end up losing it.

7. Never raise your voice. All individuals, including the teacher, will refrain from

raising their voice unless in case of emergency.

8. Attendance is crucial. Please limit absences to cases of sickness and family

emergencies.

9. Late arrivals are discouraged. Please make a valid attempt at being in your seats by

the start of classroom instruction.

10. Accept all classmates. Not only are students expected to show respect for their

classmates, but we must also show acceptance of everyone in the classroom at all

times.

11. Personal items are your responsibility. Please make sure to keep all personal items

safely stored at all times.

12. Do not lay hands on anything on the teacher’s desk. Please ask for permission before

touching or removing anything from the teachers sitting area.

13. There will be no eating in the classroom. During times where the weather is bad, we

may make an exception to this rule.

14. Water is the only liquid permitted for consumption in the classroom. Hydrating is

important and water is always allowed. Please keep all liquids in a safe spill-free

container.

15. When you hear a word you can not define, raise your hand and ask. This is a tip I just

learned myself. I find it to be very beneficial and productive.
