Course Code MEC2004 Course Title Fluid Mechanics TPC 3 2 4

Version No. 1
Course Pre-requisites/ Co- Engineering Mechanics Statics
requisites/ anti-requisites (if
any). Otherwise, please
indicate as ‘None’
Objectives: The objectives of this course is to introduce and explain basic
fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics such as properties of fluids,
types of fluid and flow which is encountered in the
applications of Aerodynamics, Hydraulics, Marine
Engineering, Gas dynamics etc. This course will facilitate
learn various hydrostatic laws to understand the importance of
flow measurement and its applications in Industries and to
obtain the loss of flow in a flow system. The concept of
boundary layers and advancement of practical hydraulics will
be helpful to understand the concept of advanced fluid
mechanics.

Expected Outcome: The student should be able to:

1. Understand the properties of fluid, types of fluid and

flow.
2. Measure the pressure at a point in a fluid flow.
3. Know the application of different flow measuring
devices.
4. Determine the losses of flow through various mediums
like pipes.
5. Learn systematic approach to problem solving.
