1. INTRODUCTION
This document presents the structural design calculations for a Factory - Nissan Plastic Injection
West Expansion as per the relevant codes and standards mentioned in section 3. The plan dimension of
proposed Expansion structure is 15.57 m x 15 m. The scope of the document is to provide the Design
report for the proposed steel building. The steel superstructure is analysed and designed using STAAD
Pro software. The substructure is designed using in house spread sheets. The document describes the
structural layout, loads and load combinations, material properties and methodology used for analysis
and design. The scope of work is to design the superstructure and substructure of proposed expansion
building only.
2. STRUCTURAL DESCRIPTION
This section describes the basic structural description and layout of the proposed structure. The
Overall plan dimension of proposed steel building is 15.57 m x 15 m. The Eave height of the structure
is 14.35 m from FFL. The main frame bay spacing of the structure is 15 m for column centre to centre
and gable end frame bay spacing of the structure is 8.57m (Max.).

STAAD Pro Analysis and design software is used for the analysis and design of the Steel building
superstructure. For the analysis 3D skeleton shall be modelled and analysed by using the STAAD Pro
analysis and design software. The full skeleton model shall be done by using the beam element in
STAAD. Bay spacing, internal columns spacing, height and slope are followed as per the input
drawings and technical specifications submitted by client. The main frame is considered as moment
resisting frame to control the deflection in the same plane.
The purlins, girts, foundations, pedestal and other secondary members are designed as per the
relevant codes and standards, using in-house standards and spread-sheets.

This section describes the various loads considered for the analysis and design of the Building
mentioned in the scope. The loads and load calculations are described below.
Dead load consists of the self-weight of the structure, its connections and other accessories. Dead
loads are considered as per the client specifications.
SL NO ITEMS WEIGHT
Live loads are the gravity loads produced by the use and occupancy of the structure. The roof is
considered as accessible roof that is utilized during the maintenance time alone.
The loads due to wind are calculated as per the provisions specified in IS 875 (Part-3). Wind load
parameters are given in table 5.2.

The loads due to Earthquake are generated by the response of the structure to design spectrum as
specified in IS 1893 (Part 1).The masses considered in the structure, generating the earthquake loads
are due to dead weight of permanent construction, only live loading on the roof of the building is not
considered. The earthquake factors considered are as follows.

Capacity 40 MT
The Structural steel building is designed for both strength and serviceability criteria. For the
strength design, load combinations as specified in IS 800- 2007 shall be used. For ascertaining safety
under service load conditions the Factored load combinations as specified in IS 800- 2007shall be
used. Various load combinations as per the partial safety factors given in IS 800- 2007 are listed below
for strength and serviceability criteria.

The foundations are designed for support reactions of the superstructure which is designed for loads
mentioned above. In addition to the support reactions, the self-weight of the substructure and backfill
is considered. The substructure including foundations and pedestals are modelled in STAAD Pro and
designed using in house validated spread sheets which are attached in Annexure B and C respectively.
The Soil Bearing Capacity is considered as 100kN/m2 at 2m below ground level as per client
specifications. The plinth beams are analysed and designed in STAAD Pro as per relevant codes and
standards. The retaining wall is designed manually, the calculation of which is attached in the
Annexure D.
All section sizes are safe as per the design and the utilisation ratios are as given in the following
figure.
The static analysis is aimed at providing the stress distributions over the entire structure for static
loads for this DR. The bending moment diagram (BMD) of the structure for the load envelope is
provided below.
The deflection limits shall be considered from IS 800:2007. For columns, the lateral deflection limit
is height/200. For columns at crane level, the lateral deflection limit is height/200. For beams, the
vertical deflection limit is span/180. For gantry girder, the vertical deflection limit is span/750.
Maximum lateral displacement for column = 0.343 mm < 14820/200 = 74.1 mm.
Maximum lateral displacement for column at crane level = 0.781 mm < 10000/200 = 50 mm.
Maximum vertical displacement for gantry girder = 5.613 mm < 8570/750= 11.43 mm

Comments:
1. Minimum Reinforcement is provided for the grade slab is to account for shrinkage and temperature
stresses Provided 12ϕ bars at 200 mm c/c
Minimum Reinforcement required = 0.12% of gross area =(0.12 x 1000 x 200)/100 =240
mm ² Reinforcement provided = ((¶/4) x 12² x 1000)/200 =565.5 mm²
Therefore, reinforcement provided is greater than reinforcement required, Hence O.K.
2. Assumed uniform live load =20kN/m²
