AIM:
The aim is to design to cater the needs of the local people and the tourists through a variety of living
spaces, recreational facilities and amenities for all income groups and give a complete eco
experience through the urban forest. Also aims at providing the live, work and play community for the
research scholars and students.
The eco village aims at protecting the cultural heritage and natural environment of the town.

OBJECTIVES:
To respond to climate and energy consumption issues through sustainable design.
To create an interactive ground for locals and tourists so there maybe a interchange of ideas and
cultural heritage.
Comfortable design which portrays an environment of leisure and promotes interaction with nature.

SCOPE:
Eco tourist village provides a scope for enhancing the ethnicity, culture and heritage of the town.
Develops the scope for site planning and landscaping. And mainly providing a green and sustainable
environment for the tourists, locals, students and the floating population.
WHY ECO TOURIST VILLAGE
Tourism sector is the highest source of income in Pondicherry but has many issues faced by the people
and tourists as it was not a major tourist destination initially.
The eco tourist village aims at solving some of the existing issues in the town i.e. inadequate staying
places, recreational zones and high tariff costs in hotels. Also promotes a community living for better
quality of life. The eco village provides a rejuvenating spa, yoga and resort for long stay tourists, co
living spaces for students, research scholars and budget living spaces for tourist who come for weekend
getaways. Recreational activities and other retail outlets promoting the culture and heritage of the
town.

SITE CONTEXT
Site Area : approx. 9 to 10.5 acres.
Location : Swadeshi Mill, Pondicherry
The main feature of the site is the reserved forest
which has a proposal for urban forest in the smart city
project of Pondicherry.
The reserved forest is hidden away from the town’s
live affairs so provides a conventional and serene
location for Eco village.
The site can be accessed by Cuddalore road and
Maraimalai Adigal Salai.
Located 300m near to the boulevard town it is easily
accessible by the tourists and the users and gives a
view into the reserved forest.
