NOTES / COMMENTS
This PSV is suggested in the previous calculations. There are two PSVs protecting shell side of the of E-
1
33101.
The available area including suggested PSV is more than the required area therefore these PSVs are
2
adequately sized.
With suggested piping, inlet line pressure drop for new PSV is 5.7% and outlet line pressure drop is 26.8%
3
which is within allowable limits.

PRD ANALYSIS

Standard Engineering Overpressure Relief Systems Rev. 2, May 2015

General Methodology

Stream properties were simulated in BR&E ProMax based on the relieving conditions calculated for each scenario.
Refer attachment for simulated properties.

Assumptions and Basis

1 This calculation is based on the API standards.

2 Overpressure was considered to be 21% for fire case and 10% for all other cases.
3 This PSV discharges to flare. The constant backpressure is considered to be 5 psig for the calculation.
4 As per the earlier study this PSV is a bellows type.
The vapor discharge coefficient is considered as 0.975 and liquid discharge coefficient 0.62.
5 The operating conditions referenced in the sizing sheet are based on the "Update Stateline Processing JBC TOX".
6 For fire case heat-flux calculations, no credit has been taken for adequate drainage of firefighting equipment.
7 For the hydraulic calculation, straight lengths and fittings of the outlet lines are based on the ISO drawings for inlet
line 5 ft length is assumed. (See Attachment)
8 The roughness factor for piping is considered as 0.00015 ft.
9 Barometric pressure is considered as 13.3 psia.
10 Additional 5% of total area is considered for piping. (fire case)

Conclusions

Governing Scenario TUBE RUPTURE

2
Total required area 2.60 in (Total required area 4.024 in2 for both PSVs)
2
Selected orifice area 2.853 in
2

Existing PSV is adequately sized for identified overpressure scenario.
Inlet line pressure loss: 8.54 psi 5.7 (% of set pressure)
Total Backpressure: 40.19 psi 26.8 (% of set pressure)

Existing PSV inlet line size 3 inch

Existing PSV outlet line size 4 inch
Existing PSV inlet line has IPD issue and outlet line is adequately sized.
