CEEN 3317: Engineering Economy Fall 2019 Engineering Economy Term Project – Instructions • Students will form into teams of up to SIX (6). A list of your team members with selected topic must be submitted to the instructor before October 10, 2019. • Each team will identify an engineering economics problem in which they are interested. It is desirable that the teams select a topic related to one of your engineering courses. The project can be from a wide range of topics—including service improvement, equipment or process selection, investment desirability, a new product or service, or cost reduction. • Each team will implement the decision-making steps outlined in section 1.1.1 of the textbook. These steps are: 1. Recognize a decision problem. 2. Define the goals or objectives. 3. Collect all the relevant information. 4. Identify a set of feasible decision alternatives. 5. Select the decision criterion to use. 6. Select the best alternative, using the methods covered in the course. • Each team will develop a PowerPoint presentation to explain the case and discuss questions/issues that it raises. Each team has 10 minutes to give this presentation—and all team members must participate in the presentation. Electronic files of all PowerPoint slides must be sent to the instructor prior to 8:00 AM on the date of the presentation, at xiaoyu.liu@tamuk.edu. • After the presentations, the rest of the students in the class will ask constructive questions to help the teams complete the case that they presented. • In addition to the oral presentation, the teams will submit a final written report. The report (maximum 10 pages) should cover the content presented by the team as well as the issues and questions raised by the class after the team’s presentation. This report is due on December 12, 2019. Reports must be submitted as an electronic file to the Blackboard. The name of the file should be [Project Name].doc. A hard copy of the report must also be submitted in class. • The teams will be evaluated on the quality and completeness of their presentations, their application of knowledge gained in the course, and their insight into the issues of the case. • Each team member will individually complete and submit a “Peer Evaluation Form.” Recommended Topics 1.
