LEARNING PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

(UNIT- I Chapter 2: Work, Energy and Power)

Subject: Science

Unit Topic: Force, Motion and Energy

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates an understanding of work

using constant force, power, gravitational potential
energy, kinetic energy and elastic potential energy.

Performance Standard: The learner should be able to propose ways of increasing

the amount of work done in a certain period.

Learning Competencies: The learners will be able to:

1. Identify situations in which work is done and in which

no work is done.
2. Differentiate potential and kinetic energy.
3. Relate speed and position of an object to the amount
of energy possessed by a body.
4. Describe how work is related to power and energy.

Transfer Goal: Students will be able to independently use their learning

to:

1. Differentiate the layman’s definition of work from

mechanical work.
2. Conceptualize the relationship of work, energy and
power.

Essential Question: Students will keep considering the following questions:

1. Why is transformation of energy useful or important?

2. How can the energy possessed by an object change its
position, motion or environment?
3. How is energy related to work and power?
Enduring Understanding: Students will understand that moving objects can do
work because they possess energy and the mechanical
energy of the system is conserved or constant as long as
no other forms of energy exist.

STAGES ACTIVITIES

Activity 1: Graphic Organizer

EXPLORE
Filling in a KWL chat about work, energy and power.

Activity 2: Situational Analysis

Identifying actions where work is done.

Activity 3: Graphic Organizer

Filling in a concept map about energy.
FIRM-UP

Activity 4: Group Activity

Activity 7: Picture Analysis

Activity 8: Performance Task

TRANSFER
Although it is difficult to significantly reduce the big impact of
an air conditioner in your electric bill, the use of right
technology can help reduce the cost of electricity. As a
marketing officer in your company, you are assigned to design
and make a one-page brochure that shows or explains how an
air conditioner with an inverter technology works, and its
benefits compared to an ordinary air conditioner. Your
brochure will be evaluated by other sales force of the company
and selected customers based on the following criteria:
organization, content coverage, grammar and mechanics, and
aesthetic appeal.
