PERCENTAGE OF CRUSHED & BROKEN SURFACES

IN COARSE AGGREGATES (EN 933-5/99)

SCOPE
This test is especially applied in the characterization and quality control of aggregates.
With the present test, the existing percentage of particles with round shaped fracture
faces is obtained, in a fraction (size) determined between aggregates with size
between 4 mm and 63 mm.
It will be carried out according to test standard EN 933-5/99. The higher the content in
rounded aggregates (polished faces), the worse the subsequent behavior since the
adhesion and cohesion of the possible asphalt mixture is reduced compared to other
aggregates in a cubic way (with edges).
