A Position Paper on Organizing a Concert

as a Fund Raising Activity for the Street Children`

As a concerned citizen of this third-world country, I am deeply saddened to see poverty in

my daily lives. Traveling from our home to school, I see street children roaming around, begging
for food for themselves or for their family. I always see Bajaos and people of different ethnic
groups risking their lives to find a better future in the city, leaving their homes kilometers away.
I can see the lack of action by the authorities and by the government to this horrific truth on plain
sight. I am deeply saddened for the fact that these people can have a brighter future. Thus, this
made me to choose a stand, to organize a concert by the teenagers in this community, as a
fund-raising activity for the street children.

The organizing of the concert for a cause will greatly benefit the people of the both sides.
First and foremost, this will definitely give convenience to the street children. The proceeds after
the completion of the above stated event will be used for different activities fort the welfare of
the street children. First, a feeding program will be made to nurture the street children and their
families with the nutrition they needed, and to partially eradicate their hunger. Thus, this will
significantly boost their physical health. Other proceeds will be spent to conduct psychological
stress debriefing programs to enhance their social and mental health. According to Vostanis,
Grattan and Cumella (1997), homeless families have a high level of complex needs than of
non-homeless families. Interaction with their co-street children will create stronger bonds
between them and creating simple networks of friendship and companionship. By helping the
street children, we are also helping to improve the quality of living of the community and lessen
the incidents of street crimes, and incidents of “rugby boys” whom are mostly children dwelling
on the streets and homeless people.

Other proceeds will be spent for the further development and maintenance of these above
said street children. These people should be monitored accordingly in partnership with the local
Social and Welfare Development Department to track their development and to supply them with
supplies needed to improve their quality of living. One major project from the proceeds after the
event would be to supply these street children with needed materials and supplies for their
schooling and education. This would greatly help these children to be more educated in many
different aspects, thus transforming these uneducated children into educated citizens of this
country.
