A. Basic Concepts
Diskless is a system that is used to operate a computer that does not have a Harddisk component, so that the PC
Client can use the system using the Network.
B. Purpose
Know how to configure Diskless
Save costs in purchasing hardware in the form of a hard disk on each client
C. Tools and Materials
Tools and materials needed before Diskless configuration include:
ISO / NxD XP-7.0.1749_linux-5.0.820 DVD / CD
Internal Hard Drive on PC Server for Diskless with a capacity of approximately 250GB
1 PC server
1 PC Client

E. Steps
The following are the steps :
Installing the Linux "NxD" Operating System on PC Server
1. Because you want to install, then select "Linux setup"
2. Wait for the loading process to finish until entering the installation phase.
3. Select "YES" to continue to the next stage
4. Select "Install to Disk" .
5. Select "auto probe drivers" to check the hard disk driver automatically.
6. Then select "YES" , if you agree with the results of the driver check.
7. Next, select the target disk that you want to use as a place to store the results of the installation.
8. Select "auoto-partition / dev / hda" to automatically create a partition on the Harddisk.
9. At this stage the warning display erases all data before partitioning automatically on this hard disk. Type "YES"
, if you agree.
10. Select "cdrom" , because it installs using DVD / CD. If you install it using USB, then select "USB" .
11. Select "OK" , if a DVD / CD or USB is found in this place.
12. This stage is partitioning. So just click "OK" . Because here just use the laying of
partitions that have been determined by the system.

Mount at "/ min"
13. Wait for the installation process to complete.
14. Select
the NxD kernel that you want to use for this PC
15. Enter the hostname for this PC
16. Click "OK" to close the "Network Interface List" dialog box .
17. Select the interface for eth0
18. Next is to set the IP Address, select "Static ip addresss" to set the IP Address manually.
19. Enter the IP Address that you want to use for eth0

20. Click "OK" to close the "Network Config Success" dialog box .
21. Select the language "English" or the language you want to use.
22. At this stage, select the server package "nxp-7.0.1749-pro-cr.run". The package is used as a Diskless
feature.
23. Select "YES" to continue the installation of the server package.
24. Then select "OK" only, if you agree this place is used as a place to use the server package installation.
25. Select "boot server" and "io server" server mode .
26. Then select "OK" to end the "Setup Successful" dialog box .
27. After that, select "Cancel" . Because it does not want to install the server package "gmiscsi-setup-
2729.run" .
28. Select "OK" to end the "Installed NxD Server Successfully" dialog box and the PC will restart.
Click "OK"
29. Select the kernel according to the kernel used.
30. Wait for the loading process to enter the NxD Server.
31. Enter the user login "root" . To enter the GUI model, type the letter "x" and press the "ENTER" button .

32. Check the IP Address by typing the command "ifconfig" through the terminal.
Diskles configuration on PC Server
1. Create a directory in the file system. The directory is used as a place to mount Diskless Harddisks.
2. Provide an internal hard disk with capacities of 100 GB - 250 GB. This hard drive is used for the Diskless Boot
Image Harddisk.
3. Then format the hard drive, by clicking "Format" .
4. Set the mount to the directory that was created in the file system and click "OK" .
5. Select "YES" to agree to format the Hard Drive.
6. Click "OK" to end the dialog box for formatting and mounting results.

7. Open the "NxD XP IO Manager" application located on the desktop.
8. Klik "Option" dan pilih "Option".
9. Masuk ke tab “System Path”, dan ubah direktori “Disk Root" ke direktori yang digunakan sebagai tempat
mount untuk Harddisk Diskless. Jika sudah, klik “OK”.
10. Lalu klik "Diskman".
11. Pilih "Add" untuk menambahkan Harddisk Diskless.
12. Karena ingin membuat Harddisk Diskless Boot Image. Jadi, pilih "New Basic Disk".
13. Masukan nama disk dan atur kapisitas yang digunakan dengan OS-nya WinXP. Kapisitas yang digunakan
harus 2x lipat atau lebih dari kapisitas file system (Local Disk C:/) milik PC Client. Klik "OK", jika sudah.
Klik "Yes" untuk mengakhiri kotak dialog

14. Buka aplikasi "NxD XP Boot Manager" yang berada di desktop.
15. Klik "Yes" untuk mengakhiri kotak dialog peringatan seperti ini.
16. Berikutnya, pilih “IO Server” dan klik "Add IO Server" untuk menambahkan sebuah Input/Output dari PC
Server ini.
17. Masukan IP Address milik PC Server ini. Jika sudah, klik "OK".
Setelah menambahkan I/O Server
18. Pilih "Disk Info" untuk memasukan sebuah Harddisk Diskless Boot Image kedalam IO Server.
19. Klik "I/O Server" yang sudah dibuat, dan klik "Refresh". Jika sudah, klik "Close".

20. Masuk ke Options dengan cara klik "Options" dan pilih "Options".
21. Klik tab "Network Setting". Kemudian atur DHCP untuk PC Client, seperti "Netmask"; "Gateway";
"WorkGroup"; "Start IP Address"; "End IP Address"; dan "DNS".
22. Selanjutnya, klik tab "AutoAdd WKS", kemudian atur AutoAdd WKS seperti di bawah ini.
Ket:
- Auto-Add on Server = PC Server akan menambahkan secara otomatis PC Client yang sudah terkoneksi
dengannya.
- Prefix = Nama PC Client yang masuk di WKS Server.
- Code Num = Jumlah nomor kode setelah nama PC Client di WKS Server.
- Start Num = Awal nomor kode dari PC Client yang masuk di WKS Server.
Konfigurasi Diskless untuk PC Client
1. Matikan Firewall di PC Client.
2. Buka program "CMD", kemudian ketikan perintah:

#ipconfig /release = Menghapus semua IP Address yang terkoneksi
#ipconfig /renew = Membuat IP Address untuk adapter LAN
3. Otomatis di PC Server melalui aplikasi “Boot Manager” terdapat WKS PC Client yang terkoneksi.
4. Kemudian ubah menjadi Super WKS. Super WKS ini digunakan untuk menyimpan sebuah image yang telah
di upload baik aplikasi maupun data di PC Client, sehingga PC Client ini tidak mengupload ulang sebuah aplikasi
maupun data yang sudah ada.
Pilih "SuperWKS"
Atur upload mode menjadi "Direct Update". Jika sudah, klik "OK"

4. Unistall "QoS Packet Scheduler" yang terdapat di LAN PC Client. Tujuannya adalah untuk
meningkatkan koneksi jaringan.

5. Ubah IP Address di PC Client menjadi static. IP Address yang dimasukkan harus sesuai dengan IP
Address DHCP yang didapatkan oleh PC Client tersebut.
6. Cek koneksi dari PC Client ke PC Server, dengan menggunakan perintah #ping IP_Address_Server
melalui program “CMD”.
7. Lalu masukan DVD / CD ISO NxD XP-7.0.1749_linux-5.0.820.
8. Install aplikasi “nxd.cli5-6.0.1725” yang berada didalam DVD / CD tepatnya berada di folder “client”.

Klik "Next"
Klik "I Agree"
Pilih type "Full Install" dan klik "Install"
Tunggu proses menginstal hingga selesai
Setelah selesai menginstal, klik "Close"
9. Lalu eject DVD / CD ISO NxD XP-7.0.1749_linux-5.0.820.
10. Restart PC Client.
11. Masuk ke Control panel, terlihat terdapat Control panel "NXP 5 Console".
12. Buka Control panel "NXP 5 Console" dan pilih "NXP 5 Uploader".
13. Masuk ke tab "Mount Disk", kemudian ketikan IP Address PC Server di kolom "Boot Server", dan
klik "Search".
14. Terdapat Harddisk Diksless Boot Image, lalu klik "Mount". Tujuannya adalah untuk menambahkan
atau menggabungkan partisi luar yang belum ada ke dalam sebuah PC.
15. Selanjutnya, klik "Diskman" untuk mengecek apakah Harddisk Diskless tersebut sudah termount
atau belum di PC Client.

16. Buka kembali Control panel "NxP 5 Console" dan masuk ke tab "File Upload". Lalu klik "Refresh"
terlebih dahulu Harddisk file sytem (Local Disk C:/) milik PC Client.
17. Tahap berikutnya, klik "Full Upload" dan ceklis "Change the Dest partition to Active" & "Format
the Dest Partition As NTFS Parition", serta ubah dest partition ke Harddisk Diskless Boot Image. Jika
sudah, klik "Upload".
18. Tunggu proses upload hingga selesai.

19. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan merestart PC Client.
20. Masuk ke BIOS dengan menekan tombol “DEL” atau tombol yang lain (tergantung jenis BIOS yang
digunakan), dan ubah Boot Device 1st mejadi "Network". Jika sudah, save dengan menekan tombol
“F10”.

Konfigurasi Diskless untuk PC Client

1. Matikan Firewall di PC Client.

Setelah selesai menginstal, klik "Close"

9. Lalu eject DVD / CD ISO NxD XP-7.0.1749_linux-5.0.820.

10. Restart PC Client.

18. Tunggu proses upload hingga selesai.
