Tomaree Community
Hospital is ready for the
busy holiday period
Like every summer, Tomaree Community
Hospital is expecting an increase in activity
with families and visitors coming into the Port
Stephens area over the Christmas and New
Year period.
It is important to remember that a number of
local general practices and pharmacies reduce
their hours over the holiday period, which may
mean that patients will be unable to see their
usual general practitioner, or get their
prescriptions filled.
People are encouraged to make an
appointment to see their GP, to obtain a
prescription, and collect their medications
ahead of the holiday period.
Medical services available
The Tomaree Community Hospital Emergency
Department is open and operating as normal
to assist with urgent, unexpected conditions.
We also roster additional nursing and medical
staff to manage the expected increase in
activity of the period.
Several general practices and pharmacies in
the Port Stephens area have indicated they
will open with staggered operating hours over
the holiday period. A list of these services can
be provided to patients on request.
The Tomaree Medical Centre, located on the
hospital campus, provides services for less
urgent issues to support the emergency
department. The centre will be open every day
during the holiday period, between 8.30am –
5pm on weekdays, and 9am – 6pm on
weekends and public holidays.
Where the matter is not serious / life
threatening, patients can also seek advice
from Healthdirect.

any time of the day or night.

Access to Tomaree Community
Hospital – HealthOne update
The Port Stephens HealthOne project is
underway and will deliver services tailored to
residents of the Tomaree Peninsula including
general practice, community nursing and allied
health, mental health, child and family health,
pathology, dental and medical imaging.
The final stage of work has begun which will
connect the new HealthOne extension with the
existing Tomaree Community Hospital.
While we are really excited about the benefits
the project will bring, parts of the site are still a
construction zone, and access to the hospital
has temporarily changed.
While work continues, all access to the
hospital will be via the Trevally Street
entrance. Temporary signage has been
installed to assist patients and visitors with
wayfinding.
Limited car spaces will be available while car
park and entry works are being completed.
Some on-street parking is available on Trevally
and Kerrigan Streets, and a drop-off zone is
available at the temporary entrance. Please be
aware that this is a shared zone with
pedestrians, ambulance, and delivery services.
The project is due for completion March 2020.
Once complete, there will be a single entrance
and single reception for all the health services
delivered on site, making it easier for people to
access the health services they require.
