Q. 1. Answer all the questions:

1) Discuss the nature of Business ethics.


ANS: Nature of Business Ethics
The characteristics or features of business ethics are:-

 Code of conduct : Business ethics is a code of conduct. It tells what to do and what not to do for the welfare of
the society. All businessmen must follow this code of conduct.
 Based on moral and social values : Business ethics is based on moral and social values. It contains moral and
social principles (rules) for doing business. This includes self-control, consumer protection and welfare, service to
society, fair treatment to social groups, not to exploit others, etc.
 Gives protection to social groups : Business ethics give protection to different social groups such as consumers,
employees, small businessmen, government, shareholders, creditors, etc.
 Provides basic framework : Business ethics provide a basic framework for doing business. It gives the social
cultural, economic, legal and other limits of business. Business must be conducted within these limits.
 Voluntary : Business ethics must be voluntary. The businessmen must accept business ethics on their own.
Business ethics must be like self-discipline. It must not be enforced by law.
 Requires education and guidance : Businessmen must be given proper education and guidance before
introducing business ethics. The businessmen must be motivated to use business ethics. They must be informed about
the advantages of using business ethics. Trade Associations and Chambers of Commerce must also play an active role
in this matter.
 Relative Term : Business ethics is a relative term. That is, it changes from one business to another. It also
changes from one country to another. What is considered as good in one country may be taboo in another country.
 New concept : Business ethics is a newer concept. It is strictly followed only in developed countries. It is not
followed properly in poor and developing countries

2) What is the relationship between ethics morals and values.

3) What is corporate social responsibility? Why is it important for business to act in a socially
responsible manner?
ANS: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that helps a
company be socially accountable—to itself, its stakeholders, and the public. By practicing corporate
social responsibility, also called corporate citizenship, companies can be conscious of the kind of
impact they are having on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental
Being a socially responsible company can bolster a company's image and build its brand. Social
responsibility empowers employees to leverage the corporate resources at their disposal to do good. Formal
corporate social responsibility programs can boost employee morale and lead to greater productivity in the
workforce
4) Explain total Quality Management.
TQM can be summarized as a management system for a customer-focused organization that
involves all employees in continual improvement. It uses strategy, data, and effective
communications to integrate the quality discipline into the culture and activities of the organization.
Many of these concepts are present in modern quality management systems, the successor to TQM.
Here are the 8 principles of total quality management:

5) Briefly explain any two unethical practices in HRM
The unethical behaviour often deals with the person’s inner characteristics who are all working in
an organization. This behaviour creates consequences in other’s behaviour also which mostly
contradicts the company’s norms and policies, and are said to be illegal or unethical by the
organisation.

Explanation:

Some of the unethical behaviours in HRM includes:

1. Doing their own personal work in the company time

This includes calling their family to know about the family situation.

2. Altering the timing by showing up late for office

Always showing up late and not maintaining proper attendance in the office.

3. Using their position or their power to disrespect or mistreat the employees who are working
under us.

4. Stealing something from the company which may also include manipulating the accounts.

5. Lying to their employees which makes them to lose trust.

6. Disrespecting company’s ethical standards or violating company’s policies.

Q.2 Discuss the various employee’s employer rights and responsibilities.


Ans: Employers and employees have responsibilities to each other, they should also
expect their rights to be upheld. These rights and responsibilities relate to areas
such as Health and Safety, the provision of Terms and Conditions of Employment,
Equal Opportunities and the right to be paid a Minimum Wage. The Health and
Safety at Work Acts set out responsibilities and rights for both employees and
employers. Employees are expected to carry out their work in a way that has regard
to the safety of others. Employers are expected to abide by a range of requirements
governing such aspects as providing safe machinery and equipment, carrying out
regular health and safety checks, ensuring the training of employees in health and
safety issues, and carrying out a risk assessment to assess the dangers of particular
work activities. There are also specific regulations about the way in which
potentially harmful substances should be used and stored. There are a number of
requirements about the minimum temperature at work, and other aspects of
working conditions.

Employees are expected to receive the terms and conditions of their work setting
out when their work commences, what their main duties are, who they are
accountable to, rates of pay, and other entitlements.

Equal Opportunities legislation sets out that all employees should receive the same
pay and conditions for carrying out the same or broadly similar work. There are also
laws against sexual, racial and disability discrimination.

The Minimum Wage Act sets out the Minimum Wage that workers can expect to
receive which today is more than £5 an hour. The Minimum Wage is regularly
reviewed and will increase over time. There are also European Union requirements
governing the maximum number of hours that workers will be expected to work in a
typical week which is currently set at 48 hours.

Employers and employees are expected to meet minimum legal requirements for
such areas as Health and Safety at Work, and minimum standards and conditions
related to hours, and the treatment of people in the workplace. Along with rights for
employees there are corresponding responsibilities such as the expectation to work
in a safe way and to have regard for the safety of work colleagues.This information
