The Parables of Jesus

The Sower
Based on Luke 8:5–15.

When Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God, He told this

parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed,
some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the
fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell on a rock; and as
soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked
moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang
up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and
sprang up, and bore fruit a hundred times” (Luke 8:5–8 AKJV).

The disciples asked Jesus what this parable meant. He

explained that the seeds were like the Word of God, and the
different types of ground that the seeds fell upon described the
ways people received God’s Word.

This parable can also be found in Matthew 13:1–23 and Mark
