Health Optimizing Physical Education 1
(Motivation and Stress Management in Physical Fitness)

Stress is the body’s response to the various mental, emotional, and physical demands made on it.

Causes of Stress among youth:


1. Peer pressure 4. Family problems
2. Extended commuting time, traffic 5. Romantic relationship
3. Financial needs

Effects of Stress may range from sudden lack of appetite or overeating to insomnia or oversleeping; unusual
sadness or happiness and anxiety or irritability.
Body response to stress on three levels:
1. Alarm
2. Resistance
3. Exhaustion
Long term or chronic Stress effects:
1. Depression 4. Substance abuse
2. General anxiety disorder 5. Chronic muscle pain
3. Sleep disorder

II. Content Standard


The Learner demonstrate understanding of fitness and exercise in optimizing one’s health as an habit; as
requisite for physical activity assessment performance, and as a career opportunity.
III. Performance Standard
The Learner leads fitness events with proficiency and confidence resulting in independent pursuit and in
influencing others positively.
IV. Learning Competencies
At the end of the lesson the, I (learners) can be able to:
a. Recognizes the role of physical activity in managing one’s stress

b. Identify different ways on how to cope up with stress
