CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, respondents of the study, research locale and

instrumentation, data collection procedure, data analysis procedure, and the schedule in

conducting this study using a Gantt Chart.

Research Design (BELLEZA)

This study uses a qualitative approach. Numerous researchers believe that using the

descriptive analysis type of research design is very much reliable and has advantages to

qualitative type of studies (Lambert & Lambert, 2012). Since this study does not require any

form of experimentation, a descriptive study will help in gathering the information needed

(Lumen Learning, n.d.). A descriptive study simply aims to determine, describe or identify a

certain topic (Ethridge, 2004, as cited in Dudovskiy, 2018, p. 24).

With the given supporting details, the researchers chose to utilize the descriptive method

as this study’s research design. The descriptive method is applicable to this study because its

objective is to determine what factors influence the career choice of students. The gathered data

from the respondents are described and analysed based on their respective responses.

Respondents of the Study (CANCINO)

The population of this study are students in San Beda University-Manila(SBU-M), while

the general population are grade 11 students in SBU-Grade 11 Accountancy, Business and

Management (ABM) students in SBU-M are the accessible population of this study. Four
students of grade 11 ABM students are the sample of this study. The sampling technique that this

study will be using is convenience sampling. This study will use convenience sampling because

each researcher of this study has peer/s among grade 11 ABM Students in SBU-M.

Research Locale (MACATONO)

The study will be conducted in SBU - M. This education place mark is situated in

Mendiola, Manila across the CEU. The university is known for its expertise of business and law

with the estimated population of over 9,000 students. The research will take place in the said

university since the samples of the study would be the grade 11 students taking up Accountancy,

Business & Management (ABM). The researchers will handout survey forms to the selected

ABM students to gather data of what existing factors are the most influential in deciding for the

students’ career choices. The classes of the grade 11 students start from 7:00 am to 4:10 pm.

After collecting back the surveys, the respondents will be interviewed at a scheduled time after

the students' class. Assuming that the interview would require an hour, the interview will be

scheduled at 4:30 to 5:30 pm inside the campus university to provide the convenience to the

respondents with their agreement to the said time of interview.

Research Instrumentation (MONTEFALCON)

In data gathering information, the researchers will conduct a researcher-made survey and

interview as instruments in able to know what factors influence the ABM students in choosing

their career choice. The advantage of using survey method is to know what students being

studied would act natural. In this, the researchers will be able to conduct a semi-structured

interview questions for the interview based on the responses of the respondents on the survey.
The researchers will use direct interview to directly know and identify the factors that affecting

the ABM students in deciding their career. The advantage of using interview method is to

determine how students being studied would influence them in deciding their career choice. The

researchers made a set of open ended questions that will answer by the respondents, as part of the

instrumentation the conversation between the interviewee and the interviewer in which the

answered questions will be confidential. In this the researcher will accomplish the qualitative

data gathered.

Data Gathering Procedure (DELA PAZ)

After identifying all the instruments that will be used in conducting the interview, the

researchers needed to follow certain step-by-step procedures in gathering the needed data.

1. The researchers made a set of questions in order that will help in determining the

factors that influence a student’s career choice.

2. The researchers will consult with their research adviser about the researcher-made

questionnaire.

3. The researchers then prepared a letter of approval, noted by their research adviser, in

order to ask for the permission of the advisers of the respondents.

4. After the letter of approval has been signed, the researchers will proceed in

conducting the interview itself. The responses of the respondents are to be recorded

for the purpose of compilation.

5. The data gathered from the respondents are then analyzed.

The researchers will be conducting an interview with 4 chosen students from the ABM

strand.
Data Analysis Procedure (FERRER)

This study will be using researcher-made survey questionnaires and semi-structured

interview in gathering the data and these data will be analyzed individually. The data that will be

gathered from the survey will be the base of conducting the interview questions. In analyzing the

data from the survey, the researchers will identify the highlights of the responses of the students.

After identifying the highlights, the responses will be categorized to determine the similarities

and differences of the responses to be able to proceed in conducting the interview questions. In

analyzing the data from the interview, the researchers will transcript first the responses from the

technical tool that will be used and permitted then will proceed in organizing the data. The data

will be organized according to the most essential matter to the study. Afterwards, similarities and

differences of the responses will be identified. Lastly, the researchers will dig deep to analyze

and interpret the data descriptively that the essence of the responses to the study will be evident

and may identify the solution or answer to their statement of the problem.
