Mosaic plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without
using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author's language while keeping to the
same general language structure and meaning as found in the original (Jacob and
Anderson, 2010, p11). Sometimes we called this "path writing," this kind of plagiarism,
Awhether intentional or not, is academically dishonest and punishable. Even if you
footnote your source. Patchwork plagiarism (also known as mosaic plagiarism or
1incremental plagiarism) is similar to paraphrasing. It is when you copy and paste
together pieces of different texts to create a new text. This includes rewording pieces of
sourced material while keeping the structure of the original texts. This type of plagiarism
requires a little more effort and is more insidious than simply incorrectly paraphrasing a
source, but plagiarism checkers like Turnitin can still easily detect this kind of
plagiarism.
Verbatim Plagiarism is word for word copy from another source without providing
attribution (Knussen,2013) . You commit verbatim plagiarism when you directly copy
text from a source and paste it in your own document without properly citing the
information. If the majority of the structure and words are the same, then it is verbatim
plagiarism, even if you delete or change a couple words here and there. If you want to
use the exact same words from a source, you need to quote the original source by
putting the copied text in quotation marks and including an in-text citation.
Plagiarism has different forms as we stated in the above on this paper and avoiding
plagiarism is important. It is important to properly concede to the contributions and
information made by other people. It shows respect for their work, most importantly, you
are giving credit where credit is due. You are not deceiving the person who reads it to
falsely believe that the work is yours. From the point of view of what we have discussed
about plagiarism here, there is a definite fact that plagiarism have different form . It is an
increasing lure amongst students and an invariable complication for the teachers in
dealing with the issue. The academic community definitely values the acknowledgment
of other people's contributions to knowledge. And therefore, the punishment for
someone who gets caught for plagiarism could be severe. Hence it is very vital for
students to understand what plagiarism means and the consequences of plagiarizing.
