Dissertation - 2019- 2020 (Self-sponsored)

Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research Institute of the Department of

Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute carries out advance level of research in all aspects
of geology and geodynamics of Himalaya. It has strong specialization in the areas of Petrology and
Geochemistry, Structure and Tectonics, Sedimentology, Geomorphology, Glaciology,
Magnetostratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Quaternary Geology, Paleoclimatology, Economic Geology,
Environment Geology, Seismology and Geophysics. The Institute encourages young students in making
career in the emerging areas of earth sciences by providing them research guidance for their
M.Sc./M. Tech. Dissertation, and one to two months short duration Summer Training. For this purpose,
applications are invited from aspiring students to carry out Dissertation at Wadia Institute of
Himalayan Geology during 2019-2020.

Important Information:

 M.Sc/M.Tech. Dissertation is open to the students who are appearing in their last semester
of post-graduation in geology/geophysics/earth system sciences, and fourth and fifth year
students of the integrated Bachelor and Master degree course of these subjects.
 The students must apply on the prescribed application format available on Institute
website.
 The application MUST be forwarded through the Head of the Department.

 Self-attested certificates/mark sheets in support of the educational qualifications must be

attached with the application form. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

 A brief write-up of research interest with proposed research problem (in about 100
words) should be attached with the application form.

 The duration of Dissertation work shall range from three to six months (December
2019/January 2020 to May/June 2020).
 Not more than three students will be entertained from the same department/university.

 Selection will be based on Merit.

 Incomplete applications and applications received in any other format, other than the
prescribed format and after the due date of application shall be rejected.

 Candidates selected for dissertation need to arrange logistic support themselves. Institute
does not provide any logistic support.
 Last date for application is 10th January 2020.
