Backgrounder
Charitable giving, philanthropy, social responsibility and
volunteering

Social responsibility

We are committed to providing comfort, happiness and inspiration for all of our fans
around the globe. We show our giving through numerous amounts of charitable giving,
such as, cash and book donations, philanthropy, such as, Share Your Ears campaign
and volunteering.

Charitable giving

In fact, in 2017 we gave $348 million to nonprofit organizations to help our community
through funds, in-kind contributions and public service announcements. Over the years,
we have donated over 61 million books to schools and children.

One way our organization give back during the holidays was:

● Feeding America, to promote access to nutritious foods for families in need,

serving more than 12 million children this year.

In America, 1 in 6 children may not know where they will get their next meal,
according to Feeding America.

Philanthropy

As part of our Share Your Ears campaign, we invited fans to help change lives by
granting wishes for kids around the world with critical illnesses. In the second phase of
our Share Your Ears campaign, fans gathered to participate in the world’s biggest Share
Your Ears photo at Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary party held at D23: The Official
Disney Fan Club’s event.

For other participants that we’re unable to attend they were able to participate through
social media and given the opportunity to sport their “Mickey Mouse ears” on Facebook,
Instagram and Twitter. By using the hashtag, #ShareYourEars, Disney was able to
donate $5 to the Make-A Wish foundation per photo.
In 2014, Disney helped more than 7,000 wishes come true in the United States,
according to the Make-A Wish foundation.

One way for our organization to give back during the holidays was:

● Tots for Toys, we have supported this cause since 1947, through promotional
posters and the creation of their logo made by Disney artists.

Volunteering

Since 2012, our dedicated volunteers have contributed 3.4 million hours of service. As
part of our goal, in 2020, we are going to donate five million hours of our employees
time to community service.

At the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey Park, in California, more than
32 lawyers, paralegals and administrators took part in the annual National Adoption Day
in Los Angeles. With the help of Disney volunteers, we helped assist the adoption of
200 children.

Some other ways we gave back during the holidays were:

● Family Volunteer day, Disney volunteers and their families packed 5,000 snack
packs for kids at the Orange County Food Bank, assembled 300 butterfly Garden
Kits for Inside the Outdoors and wrote 500 holiday postcards for military
personnel in Anaheim, California.

● Adopt-a-Family, local employees supported 200 families through this program.

Overall, our organization is focused on promoting happiness and inspiration for all of our
fans and comfort for those who are need.
